Root Read-Only error

Im typing in the commands for the recovery.zip for the root in the SDK tools directory, and every time i try to do the line:

adb push recovery.img /sdcard

It says its a read only and my sd card is not mounted and phone is on charge only.

any ideas?

is usb debug on? if not, turn it on

Its on, i just redid everything and it worked. bout to install the rom
