real signed update.zip !

Well, we finally got the replacement for my partner's phone. I got it activated, and it immediately said the update was available. I downloaded it and installed it, and there is NO 3G. No cellular internet at all. I've called VM 3 times, and they have reprogrammed the phone 3 times.

Any suggestions? My phone, updated using the update.zip posted here, is working fine. Should I try re-applying the update manually to his phone?

Seriously? where do you even come up with this crap.

it's completely obvious why they took it out.. they ARE a no-contract company.. and it's a one time fee per 30 days. They don't charge you for extra data usage like other companies may do. It makes sense for them to remove the apps where people would be using a ton of more data.. 25bucks a month is nothing. If you really need hotspot and all the other stuff that uses a ton of more data then you should drop virgin mobile and get a contract based phone. What they do allow us to do already is pretty amazing for the price.

I'm sure someone will eventually hack it to allow the hotspot and other apps like this to work. but I wouldn't be surprised if VM cuts your service off or throttles your connection.

I agree it is completely obvious why they took it out, but maybe then they should offer the option at an additional cost ($10 extra a month or something). Yes, $25 a month is nothing, but so is 300 anytime minutes. I am one who is not on that plan, I am on the $40 - 1200 minute plan. You may say, well those on the 300 minute plan really use data and not much cell service. OK, then maybe they should truly make the data plan unlimited and not cap it by disabling the hotspot feature then. I mean, people are purchasing the phones for basically just unlimited data, right?

I highly doubt anyone would be using the hotspot all the time for their home computer's internet, as it would be painfully slow at times and frankly unreliable from my experience with VM's internet data. Plus, with no roaming and partner cell towers (only Sprint) than that makes it even more limiting for those who would try and use it all the time as their sole source of internet (which they can now anyway, if they only use their phone for internet access). So with that said, the extra bandwidth that would be placed on VM's network would be minimal and I am sure they have the infrastructure to handle it since they do advertise "unlimited" data for their phones anyway. Plus data is not a tangible resource such as water or power that needs to be replaced or reproduced at an expense, so as long as you already have an infrastructure that can handle it (ie: doesn't slow down or bottleneck too much under heavy bandwidth loads), then why not give your customer's that extra perk?

So really enabling this option for a paid fee or even free would just be more icing on the cake. I would only use it when I travel for my netbook and/or my wife's laptop personally. If I wanted to use it for a more permanent solution, I would invest in a contract service hotspot device or phone such as Verizon and I think most others would feel the same. Just my thoughts on it.

Still failing. I don't have thinkfree.apk and virgin_live.apk so that's probably why its always failing on me. I sent in a request for a replacement Intercept, hopefully it will go through, otherwise I will NEVER tase FROYO.

Ok so i was scared to do it at first, but i had enough of waiting for VM. Im so happy i did! Everything is running smoothly. ♥ Now my question is this... Am i suppose to keep the update.zip file in the sd card? i ask because im always moving stuff around, and if its going to mess with the update ill make sure i leave that one alone. Thanx for any replies in advance ;)

Now all we need is someone to create a simple way of rooting Intercept 2.2 and a custom rom that features live wallpapers, flash, tethering and/or wireless hot spot.
Tried to root 2.2 but could only find instructions for installing sprint 2.2 rom and I couldn't get that to work with a custom 2.2 rom for vm.

root samsung intercept .. z4root didnt work , one click didnt work , a few others didnt , found one just for intercept ... samsunt intercept root ... one of a kind for i think just this phone havnt tried for any others yet but chats all talked about it and said it only worked for this phone and everyone else had same problem good luck..!
