Real talk: I'm going to return my Evo

No one else thinks it's crazy to carry spare batteries around? For those that don't I'd highly suggest starting to stock up on EVO backs also as the one you have now will not stand up to constant/daily R & R. The tabs are very flimsy.

My evo back is fine. and id rather have the option to carry around spare batteries (when i say carry around, I mean throw one in my cars console. Thats SUCH a burden let me tell you) than to be FORCED to tether for a charge no matter what.

I will never understand how some people are perfectly happy and actually believe that LESS options is better.

people must have everything turned on.

My battery life SUCKED when i first got them, but if you know the battery gets better with usage.

After almost a week my battery is better then ever.

Yesterday i used my phone for an hour straight with another hour of random calls. email notifications set up refreshing instantly and web/facebook useage. Also used pandora with speaker on for 2.5 hours after being unplugged the night before i am still at 45% when i got home around 7:15pm.

i think people are just using the f out of their phone since its new to them.

Well when you have a full featured phone that's more powerful than laptops 3 years ago, what do you expect? Do you expect a laptop to last 12+ hours with a3g/gps/wifi on all day?

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

To be completely honest with everyone, I switched over from a 3GS on Friday to get the Evo and I think all of you are making too many excuses for the Evo. Just think about it for a second, you justify the lack of battery life on the fact that is is a powerful phone and has a huge screen, etc etc... however, don't you think that after spending (in my case) $300 on a phone, signing up for a 2 year contract, and spending a extra $10 a month on the phone... I should be able to use the phone's features as advertised without killing the phone in half a day? That's like Nissan marketing the Leaf as a electric car and will save you a bunch of money not having to spend money on gas anymore, only to find out that you can get to work with the car, but you run out of juice on the way home.

Honestly, I am happy with my Evo... however, I would not have minded it if HTC had made the phone a few millimeters thicker to give the phone more battery life instead making me purchase a battery for $70 and having to replace it 6 hours or less after I get it off the charger. I'm just adding a straightforward response to all the trolling and finger pointing, but the fact of the matter is... why have such a nice phone when just to get a day out of it I have to turn off every feature that is cool about it? I might as well have bought a phone that does not do what the Evo does if I have to turn everything off anyway.

Turn live wallpaper off, turn wifi off, turn gps off, turn bluetooth off, turn 4G off, turn data sync off, turn animations off, turn roaming off, turn widgets off... Why do I have to cripple a brand new phone so much, and with all these advertised features off... The point is that you should not HAVE to turn all that stuff off. I don't like looking at my phone saying 90% after having a 12 minute phone call with all the battery saving features off...

Again, I like my Evo... but i'm going to end up buying that 3500mah battery from Seidio when it comes out which should be a huge leap from that 1500mah battery and I should get plenty of time on it then. But it's a shame i'll have to spend $70.

As as far as the OP, he has a completely legitimate complaint however I would go into Sprint and make sure first it isn't the phone that's causing you problems. If it's defective, they'll give you another one... if that doesn't work and you choose not to swap to another then do what you think will be best for you.

Guys, why are you bothering? He's not interested in diagnosing/fixing the problem at all, thus the point of him stating he's returning it. If anything he's just trolling to get a rise out of you all.

spot on sir, spot on

Don't get me wrong, I love the freaking phone. But not getting 4g in a city that is covered with it and abysmal battery life is a deal killer for me.

This is a true real reason to return the phone. It's the reason I ditched my iPhone for the Evo. Where I am most of the time in Chicago has a great Sprint signal and terrible AT&T signal.

I think they're both great devices, but you have to pick the one that suits your life and where you are most of the time. A great device is just a brick if there's no signal.

Good luck!

Obviously there are issues with some of the phones. I'm not the only one experiencing terrible battery life and lack of 4g reception- there are others posting with the same problems.

But all I get is "oh you're doing it wrong iphone sux android rules my phone is great i get 11ty hours on a charge after talking for 17 hours blah blah blah"

With as much as one pay's for an Iphone, don't you think they SHOULD be able to change out the battery if they want in order to have longer use time out of it?

Anyone have both an Evo & Iphone? Seems the only REAL test is run the same apps and do the same functions for a side by side comparison then.

...but for those getting rid of their evo, wtf are you still doing on this forum then?

I appreciate the genuine response. It's frustrating to have followed this phone for months, wanting it very badly, and then not getting the 4g coverage I expected.

Funny thing is that I haven't had the need to swap a battery on my iphone. What a pain in the ass to be honest.

I have both a 3gs and and evo on my desk. the 3gs is still my primary line. I kept it until I thoroughly tested the evo. The evo isn't going to stay, it's not the right phone for me.

Not discussing this because you are not interested in diagnosing and fixing the problem. If you want to blame the EVO and return it, go ahead. What are you even here for? Are you looking for permission?

This thread has proven that I'm not the only one experiencing the same issues.

I have 4g. I have a clear wimax usb modem that I use with my laptop that uses the SAME EXACT 4G NETWORK THAT SPRINT IS USING. I get great reception with it and shit for my evo.

I turned 4g off because I never got any signal worth a damn.

Not an expert here or anything. But, I am pretty sure that what you are getting with the "clear wimax" is the older equipment. They are currently upgrading that to work for Sprint. Where I live Clear is available - but it does not work for Sprint. That is on the schedule for later this year after the upgrade it to the latest Wimax.

My guess is you don't have the Sprint 4G service - just the old clear. Just a guess.

Good theory, but there are people in my company that use a Sprint Overdrive hotspot...

Yea, they built a superphone.

Why didn't they build a super battery to go with it?

Seriously, this phone is so much more advanced than the hero, but uses the same battery?

Remember the Q9c? Remember the huge battery it had?

I'm guessing they didn't put a larger battery in it due to (a) size and (b) cost. They were trying to keep this phone as light/thin as they could while still meeting a certain price point.

For people that use their phone all day yet can't charge but once a day, this isn't the best phone for you unless you get a backup battery or a bulkier extended battery.

Unfortunately for me I'll probably be returning my Evo when the new iPhone comes out as well. Hear me out.

The 4G radio on my phone appears to not work at all. The reps at the Sprint store here in Houston couldn't even get it to obtain an IP, so I've been without 4G since I picked it up. I'll be picking up a replacement phone from Best Buy later this afternoon if the shipment has indeed come in as they expected it to.

Here's the thing though: My cellular, 3G and wifi performance are all horrible as well, and I'm pretty sure they use completely different hardware inside the phone as the 4G. So I don't think the replacement phone will do me any good in that regard.

At home and at work my wifi signal is extremely weak on the phone, whereas every other device in the house and office get great signals. 3G is unusably slow here in Houston, often capping out at less than 300kbps (sometimes under 100). I receive zero to one bars of cellular signal inside my apartment, whereas other people on other Sprint phones in the same complex get great signals. My previous iPhone received an excellent signal in the same places as well for comparison.

As much as I love the phone itself and absolutely adore Android (especially coming from the iPhone OS, which I loathe) I just can't keep it with such horrible service. I don't know if it's Sprint's network or if I have a lemon of a phone. But it sounds like other people are having problems with weak signals as well where they didn't on another device. Perhaps it's a shortcoming of the Evo's hardware, I don't know. I just know that I can't use it.

PLUG IT IN

This isn't a hard concept. You can charge it using a wall charger, car charger, or even a PC/laptop.

..and by the same token I can kill the battery on my I-touch as fast/faster than my evo.

So, if you don't like the options involved with keeping the evo.. get rid of it and leave the forum to those that like the device.

Headcase, what part of houston are you in?

Might be intersting and worthwhile to get a few houstonians with the Evo together and test/compare signal recpetion etc in one spot then around town.
