Help really getting hacked off with no update....

hi all.

my galaxy s3 doesnt seem to want to update. its on 4.1.1 and ive tried to do the force update thing and connect to kies but it still wont update.

i purchased the phone from p4u when it first came out and it got repaired in december as it wouldnt turn on - this repair was done at cpw.

it doesnt seem to want to upgrade which i do not understand as my sister is running 4.2

please help

Root the phone. I've been running 4.2.2., for over a month, and i'm loving it.:p

The current official FW release is HB 4.1.2 anybody proporting to run 4.2.2 is running an AOKP or AOSP custom ROM; the only newer FW for our device, i.e. 4.2.1 are based on leaked Samsung FWs but you need to be rooted to flash any of these.
 
Rooting is easy. It's what you can do to your phone after rooting that can mess things up. If you decide to root make sure you learn how to make a nandroid backup before doing anything else. There is a lot of reading ahead.
 
You can just flash the official 4.1.2 update using Odin (pc program) without rooting mate. Find the firmware on Sammobile.com. choose the firmware for your carrier/network

As far as I know the latest firmware for the S3 on O2 is I9300XXEMC2 (4.1.2) and should be available either through Kies or as an over the air (OTA) update through the phone (Menu > Settings > About > Software update.

If neither method is allowing you to update then you can take your phone to a Carphone Warehouse that has an authorised Samsung repair centre and explain the situation and they can update the phone for you.

I was exactly the same as you. I used Skunkape's guide to rooting the SGSIII(check for it in XDA-Dev. forum), and it was EASY. No problems. Find the guide, read it, and then decide what you want to do. Good luck.:)
