Really nice case for the GNex

Just thought I would share my thoughts with everyone. I just got this case :AccessoryGeeks.com- Original Trident Kraken 2 Samsung Galaxy Nexus Hard Cover on Silicone Case w/ Screen Protector, Kickstand, & Holster, AMS-GLNX-BK - Black - Shipped Free

I wanted my phone to be protected, yet still comfortable. This case is a double whammy of protection - hard outer shell with soft silicone inner lining, protection and insulation.

Pros: 2 cases in one (one soft, one hard for extra protection), comes with extra full screen protector, front and rear camera lenses are deeply recessed in the plastic for added protection, screen is deeply recessed to prevent scratching, rubber cover plugs over charging port and headphone port, kickstand, belt clip optional, speaker is nice and open but has a fine mesh covering it so it doesn't get dirty, easy access to hardware buttons.

Cons: A little tricky to get the hard case on over the silicone at first, removal from belt clip is not as easy as it should be, notification LED is partially covered... still visible but i'm going to have at it with a file so its perfect.

How does it feel? It feels great, its not a cheapo case. It feels very solid and the build quality is great. I'm actually confident that my phone could sustain a fall at any angle from a decent height and not be harmed. It also doesn't make the phone heavy. It does make it bigger, but it still fits in the pocket comfortably and does not inhibit use at all. Plus the kickstand is very nice. It comes in tons of colors too.

I concur! The hard cover also has swappable accessories too. I just ordered the windshield mount that clips in where the metal stand goes. There's also a tripod mount too!

How does this compare to the otter box defender?

I like how with the otterbox, the screen protector is built in, not some flimsy piece of plastic that I have to continually try to apply til I get it perfect.

This is similar to the Otterbox Commuter but beefier. The silicone sleeve is thicker. I looked at the OB Defender and I did not like the fixed screen protector. I could not see the screen well outdoors and since I work outdoors, I was afraid dust would get between the Defender's screen protector the the GNex screen. Which would cause damage. The screen protector that comes with the Kraken is thicker than the OB Commuter screen protector that I had on my LG Optimus and I never had to replace that one in the 18 months that I owned it.

The otterbox defender, as soon as you lock the hard plastic together, nothing gets under the screen. I'm in el Paso too, the dustiest place imaginable. Get your car detailed, drive home, open the car door, and its like why..... But no dust gets under the screen protector lol

I think the thing I miss most about my thunderbolt is the kickstand.I would get a case with one but I have a huge extended battery. Does anyone know a case with kickstand that will fit over the Nexus with the big ext. battery and cover?

I've read too many reviews of dust getting trapped under the defender screen and scratching the phone to trust it

As it turns out I am terrible when it comes to putting on a screen protector, I can't get it to come out without micro bubbles and dust and fine hairs no matter how many times I try. So I just went to the verizon store where I get all my phone stuff and just asked the tech guy there to do it... he put them on a few of my phones and they're flawless. Trust the pro's, they do it at least 10 times a day.

i have the defender on my nexus right now and it does offer me piece of mind when it comes to drops and it comes with a 1 year warranty and yes they respond quickly (i broke my first one lol) but as far as the built in screen protector IT SUCKS! it gives my nexus a grainy rainbow tint and really diminishes the quality of videos and reading when there is a white background and no it doesn't need to be cleaned. also it is a pain to put in and take out of pockets due to the silicone sticking to your pockets. i am currently debating what other case to get. . prob gonna go with a

Yeah.... Those tiny microscopic white pieces of dust that frickin only show up when you go to put on a screen protector.

Oh, and I hear ya about this thing sticking to the inside of your pocket from the silicone.

I'm not Richie rich though, so it'll be a couple of paydays before I will have money for an alternative. I do like the case from the OP.

I hate that silicone stick too, but the outer hard shell on this case covers up the vast majority of the silicone, the only exposed silicone parts are the corners so it slides in and out of the pocket with ease.

I have put on about 6 of them only once did I get it flawless. I live in a house full of dog hair and dust. Its almost immpossible.Canned air does help though.

I have the trident kraken and I wish I could get my money back. The inner sleeve fits loosely on the phone allowing debris to get inside. The outer shell turns a beautiful slim phone into a gigantic monster. I am surprised people say it fits into their pocket. I wonder what kind (or size) pants they are wearing. I can fit it into my shorts that have a leg pocket but it bangs around because of the extra weight/size.
It is built well (except for the sleeve) and does what it needs to but it just wasn't worth it for me. I am shopping for something to replace it.

The kraken is for the lte model is yours gsm? You must be wearing skinny jeans if it doesn't fit in your pocket. I can fit a defender in my fitted jeans.

Its LTE... yea I was gonna say the same thing, i've never had an issue with it fitting in my pocket, and the inner silicone sleeve that I have is nice and snug once you get the hard case snapped on, no debris getting in there.

I have to agree with you ....the diztronic case is the nicest case for the gnex. Not bulky still smooth and gives really great protection.

So.... I'm fed up with my otterbox defender. The silicone sticking to my pocket and the built in screen protector is all scratched up from going in the same pocket as my keys today lol.

My old cases were the soft gel like those ones. I'll agree it is a little bit smaller but I figured this phone is huge already so why does it being 5-10% bigger really matter. Plus I don't feel like my phone is as well protected with those, sure its better than bare, but I guess i'm just paranoid (and accident prone) so my phone(s) hit the ground inevitably from time to time.

Also I'm a huge fan of the rubber plugs that cover the charging port, headphone jack and the fine mesh that covers the speakers and keeps debris out, and the big easily accessible hardware buttons + kickstand. I'm on the fence about the belt clip thing, it takes a little getting used to but I think I might stick with it for a while... and that way I can carry my spare battery in its nifty little case in my pocket where the cell phone used to be :)

Its also kinda cool knowing that the only actual part of the phone that is exposed to the elements (not part of the case or screen protector) is a tiny little sliver over the earpiece, a tiny patch above the front camera, and the rear camera (which is deeply recessed, and I am also considering cutting a piece of screen protector to put over the rear camera and LED as well).

But I know what you guys are sayin... it does make the phone bigger but, IMO its totally worth it for the extra protection.

How does this compare in bulkiness to the Incipio hard+silicone case? Does it fit over the Samsung extended battery (not that new big bulky mofo, the one that was available right after release).

Ditto. The otterbox defender fits.... Snugly

I rock the stock battery (1850mAh), so I can't tell you if it fits with an extended battery. My guess is probably no, it is a very snug fit to begin with, I imagine if you had an extended battery door it would be too thick for the hard portion of the case to snap on.

I watched a YouTube video that said it fits with the Samsung 2100mah extended battery. I haven't ordered an extended battery yet so I cannot confirm.
