Help really trying to back tbolt but...

tazoury

Lurker
there are just too many issues with it. especially after last os update. I have 2.3.4 and sense 2.1.

1. constantly muting/hanging up during calls.
2. video playback doesn't work. even on vids I shot with it. audio does.
3. dropping calls and losing service in places it never used to.
4. erraticness in browser when typing or zooming.
5. overall just "unsmoothe" interface.

frustrating because I love android and HTC and im always attempting to convert iphoners but these types of things make it hard to always sound convincing. suggestions anyone? thanks all.

I Have the same problem with muting the phone on a call. I just turn my screen off prior to putting it to my ear. Problem solved.

Sounds like it might be time to back up, and try a reset, see if that helps. If not, get it replaced. Have you added any apps recently that may be a factor? Hard to narrow down, but never know..

I don't have any of those issues but I've noticed an issue with sms (stock). While I'm typing, if I get an upcoming text then the word I'm typing will double. Anyone else notice this?

Rooting solves 95% of the problems with the Thunderbolt.
Which is pretty sad really. Tbolts got left in the dual core dust extremely fast this year, almost making this phone a dinosaur already, even by their own manufacturer. Considering the hype tbolts went through on release only to fall so far behind so fast. Even the first dual core phones that came out around the same time as tbolt are still going strong while this phone seems to have quickly become a forgotten red headed step child. I can't say I'm very sympathetic though - a lot of really obnoxious chest-thumping coming from tbolt buyers on this forum are getting a taste of karma right now. I hear crow doesn't taste too bad if you hold your nose :D

I see the same thing. It also happens if a sweet comes in. It seems to be related to getting a status notification "pop up" in the notification area.

I recently rooted and will be trying a new ROM soon

I'd say all of those problems can be fixed by rooting except the first. The hanging up/muting is super annoying, but here's a proven fix:

Take a can of compressed air and blow it along the seam between the the glass screen and the metal grill on the top of the phone.

The proximity sensor is right below the glass and it is too close to the edge, so it gets blocked by dust and grime over time. If the proximity sensor isn't working, then the screen won't turn off when you put the phone up to your face and your cheek will hit the end/mute buttons (depending on your dialer) when you're in a call.

From what I've seen, the new phones all do the same exact stuff that my phone can do - Internet, email, text, gps, wifi, etc. All phones are hype, pretty much, but in the end they are all very similar. I wouldn't go as far to chest bump someone over the Thunderbolt, but I think it's a great phone, all things considered.

This is not based in reality (maybe the hype part). Considering:

A)The Revolution and Charge were the next comparable phones released by verizon AFTER the Tbolt (do you think they feel better or have more support).

B) the first dual core phones (from verizon anyway) dont have 4G OR front facing cameras. Which is more important? You dont get more left behind than not having these two features.

C) Define "going strong" as it pertains to Service provider and OEM. What have they done for any other phone that they didn't do for the Tbolt. Other than GB and a few patches what is this "support" you speak of? Maybe in the future if all the other phones get OTA ICS and the Tbolt doesn't THEN perhaps you have a valid argument

D)NONE of these phones have even half the development community of the Tbolt. Matter of fact short of Incredible, EVO and Hero you'd be hard pressed to find many phones with the devopment community of the Tbolt. this is where the real updates come from for any phone. There isn't a HTC phone out now that you cant have their or like software running smoothly on the Tbolt. Like the Rezound with beats install Eternity. Like MyTouch4G with rotating rosie and sense 3.0 install touch my BAMF, want Sensation/Evo3D sense 3.0 too many choices, AOSP many to choose, MIUI its there.
E) EVERY single phone released anywhere near when the Tbolt was released is a red headed stepchild and anything you buy now will be the same in 6 months. Ask any redhead stepchild who's treated worse and they'll all say they are. Your (Tbolt) no different than any other phone released who knows how far back. Look at all the hype of the Bionic, then the Razor comes seems like weeks later. How often do you hear people talk about the Bionic now that the Razors out?
