Realtime Traffic & Speed Cams

Like Trapster you'll be alert when close to accident, speed traps, light cameras. My application alerts you by vibration, customisable sound and in biker mode I added very visible flashs.

Like Trapster you can notify other users when you see accidents or speed traps. I don"t have yet the possibility to quote accidents or speed traps has they stay only 45 minutes (average time cops stay at the same place).

By next month you'll be able to declare Red light on line so you can make the database more accurate. The idea will be the same as trapster to make it accurate (the more you rate the more is becomes accurate).

Now let's go to what you require in Trapster. I don't use it every day so tell me if I'm wrong.

In my app you can have very simple navigation system (bring you from your location to a destination).
I have two Traffic Info layers:

- One from Google (you can show/hide it if you want)
- One from other users. When you drive with my app you send to my servers your position, speed and direction so I can map it over Google Maps. This way any one driving to the same direction can see the traffic conditions you had (your track only stays 30 minutes on the map). This feature also answers your question about "is there a way to know if someone else went there before me?"
The other idea behind the "Crowd Sourced" traffic is you can see traffic conditions out of the main roads (where Google only works most of the time)

Of course you can run my app in background and everything is optimise to same your battery and you'll be alarmed.

Of course you'll see traps, lights, accident and so on on the map and you'll be able to show/hide each of them to make the traffic clearer in some very specific case.

I don't think I will code an iPhone version and I do my best to maintain my app from version 1.1 to 2.2 of Android.

So if something is missing feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to add this feature in the next releases.

I've been useing this app in Norway now for a while, but since there are a maximum of 500 persons useing this at one time (and Norway is a small country) i have not gotten any use of it at all. hehe.

When i do a trip, my green/red dots does not show up on my map. Like if there was no traffic jam there are no dots behind me. Is it supposed to be?

If i report a speedcam that is incorrect? What happens? Am i able to remove it?


My opinion is that this app should be ported to iphone, not that i'm a fan of the phone, but it has an substantial ammount of users compared to android.

And is the usercount correct? Is there only 500 users online? Or is that in my area only?


PS: I'd love to be a betatester! Even though it seems that i'm driving all by my self.

AND: I would also love seeing the other persons on the road, if thats possoble. Like a small anonymous dot, or similar.
I'll be paying my attention to this thread, and i have rated it a 5-star for the concept alone.

Hi paarsand,

First of all thank you for the 5 stars rate ;-)

In theory you should see your track with red, green and black dots only if you are not using Samsung Spica. This phone doesn't provide any accuracy measures so I ignore them for Info Traffic calculation. Except this reason I don't see why you don't see your track.

For better debug send me logs using Log Collector (available on Market) and send them to the e-mail address available on the market.

To become a beta tester you just have to register on http://monthorin.net and send me a mail with you beta tester number (available from menu/more/about).

Concerning the number of users I only show users at 500km around you so maybe Swedish users are in the count. For the moment the "Around Me" feature works fine in France and US but I don't have any feedback yet in other countries so maybe there's a bug here.

There's a release almost every week so if you have any idea, comment or bugs feel free to mail me and I'll do my best to fix, add or improve my app for you.

I can bug-report the around-me function in Norway and Sweden, i cannot see any users at all.. I live next to the Swedish border.

Is there any future for the spica?

Sorry for that but the Spica issue is a hardware issue :-(
In fact you don't see users you see the tracks they do while driving.

You can only see these tracks from zoom level 9 to 16 and as US has a large time zone range have a look to Los Angeles tonight or Paris in France and I'm sure you'll see something ;-)
Use the "Search" menu to move faster to a location.

Spica is not giving any info on the accuracy of the GPS measures (any other Android does. Ask Samsung why) it doesn't mean it's not accurate it's just that I don't if it is or not.
Would you be happy if a track, an accident or a speedcam is 20km far from the real position? Today I'm obliged to apply such filter to avoid erroneous measures to be displayed on the map.

450 users mean users logged but not compulsory driving ;-)

I planned to add such filter to have only driving users and not all of them.

I'm also working on a new feature that reduces these 500km to 100 or 50km because you can spend all of your time searching for someone (mainly if he has a Spica :0).
Please keep in mind that tracks are only kept 30 minutes because what is the need to know a road was clear 6 hours ago?

I hope this helps you to understand a bit more how my app is working and I know it's not that easy to keep in mind everything ;-)
 
Just downloaded and installed this app. Was using trapster and will compare the two tonight on my way home. I am in Michigan, so we will see. Running a samsung moment. I see previous mention of "around me" however in playing with the phone at my desk, I do not see that option, am I just missing it?

How about a google maps (pc version) of this?
Just a layer.
So we can check traffic conditions on the PC also...

I follow kzoo in wondering where the "around me" option is.

Hi Paarsand,

The PC version is being developed at the moment and will allow you to see what you see on your Android but with the confort of your PC.
You'll also be able to add new speedcams, create a driver community and so on.

The "around me" is not an option it's a standard feature. I used these words just to describe how my application behaves.
If you tap the distance label on top right corner it will switch to average speed and Users. The "Users" label gives you how many users are at 500km around you. You can select this label to be the default from the preferences.
I'm working to make this 500km as a variable (200, 100 and 50) but for the moment it's a very alpha version and I prefer not showing figures that may be wrong ;-)

If you have any idea to improve my tool feel free to mail me or post on this forum.

When I use the app and set the display to show my speed, you need to round that to the nearest MPH. Now, it's showing something like 30.13425928143 MPH and that looks just silly.

I double checked my code and I found where the problem is. The problem is on average speed calculation when showing speed in mph.

I'll build a beta version fixing this issue by tomorow I think.

I just got an EVO 4G and I'm looking for good apps to download. This looks like something I'll really like, so I downloaded it and will let you know how I like it. I'm totally new to Android, so it's still a big learning curve for me.

Can you tell me if my application is working on your phone? Can you first tell me if speed is changing while driving?
