Root Reason behind locked bootloader?

Hey all was just doing some thinking as to why moto locked this bootloader. Would it be due to the docking functions of this phone and flashed Roms would essentially make that option nonexistant? Was always curious if gingerblur can still dock on the lapdock or not. I figure it it removed that functionality then the phone would have plenty more resources to do its phone functions because I heard the webdock is always active using 500 or so megs of ram when the phone is on. I guess if you didn't buy the phone to be a little computer you could get so much more out of it and probably a crazy battery life haha.

i always thought the reason for a locked bootloader was to basically prevent you uploading your own ROMS and rooting etc.

Thats what I thought as well but I heard the Xoom came out with an unlocked bootloader. Seems kind of a strange for the same company to lock one but not the other.

Voodoochild pretty much hit it on the head. Atrix is not the only Android phone they locked out.. I had the Droid X, that was locked down as well, just a bigger dev community for the DX.... Droid 2 was locked down as well.. iirc...

The Xoom is their first Tab and runs Googles Tab OS, per say.. so I'm sure they wanted to unlock that one and see what the dev community can do with it, then probably released the next Xoom and lock it down..

It's a pseudo rom. It's mainly a theme with some bloatware removed, and framework changes. A signed bootloader means you won't be able to touch the kernel of the phone, or install a different OS version, such as actual Gingerbread. Also, we have no control over the processor with SetCPU or anything like that.
