Reboot Extremely Slow

I have noticed that if I ever turn my captivate off and then reboot it; it will take anywhere from 3-5 minutes for the Captivate to fully boot and become usable. Prior to then it is unbelievably laggy and if I even try to dial out it freezes.

I moved my 4gb of music from the internal SD card to the external SD card thinking that may make a difference but that did not solve the problem.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Are there any notifications in your notification menu once the phone is fully booted? It could be related to a program that you have installed, unless it was like this ever since the day you got the phone. I have noticed that my gReader program likes to perform a sync every time I boot up the phone, even though I disabled automatic syncing.

It could be gReader, the only other thing I ever see up there is Media Scanning.

The more apps/widgets/files on the sd card you have the longer it'll take to boot. End of story.

it is reading/caching all those files into the media library. Does not matter where the files are, external or internal card. It needs to open up each file, scan its length and meta data, etc, and store in the library.
I do not have a workaround for it yet, but I do not reboot the phone that often.

That was what I figured, just thought it would work similar to my iPhone, but to be honest it probably does, the iPhone took forever to boot just didn't show you the homescreen and tempt you until it was all done.

NO!!!! It is not even close to the iPhone! There is a HUGE difference: in the "walled garden" you can only use music files from your desktop iTunes, and its the iTunes that does this scanning/tagging thing (and downconverting/downsampling where needed). The lib of desktop iTunes juts gets synched with the iPhone. iPhone does not do anything else. Well it is (pre iP4) still slow comparing to a good Android phone. And iTunes will slow down your desktop. I do not know what I hate more, iTunes or iPhone.
The ANDROID beauty - you throw anything at it, in any way you want, it will handle it. The first thing I did when I got my Captivate was I copied an old 720p avi movie rip to a micro SD, popped it in the phone and it played it well! I did not have to convert it to anything using any iTunes, did not have to limit the file to being playable only on this phone, etc. Freaking freedom.

HAHA I left the iPhone for the same reasons... I wasn't comparing the merits. I was stating that on the iPhone once its on i could do anything and on the android its taking me 3 minutes or more. But what I did realize is on the iPhone I was waiting that same time on the Apple logo instead of on the lock screen, so really it is the same thing.
