Received update

I have a friend that has also NOT received the update yet. The phone has been giving them a really rough time this week with failed phone calls and text messages. The HTC website page for the Evo V 4G phone has a section for updates, but this update is missing.

Without the manual update options, it looks like the only options are to wait longer, or contact HTC based on the prior forum post that Virgin Mobile was unwilling/unable to help.

The updates on the page that you're referring to are RUU files that put your phone into an out of the box state, they don't and can't provide ota's on the site because of the whole concept of the ota being that the CARRIER pushes it to the phone, unless you're rooted and s - offed their is no way to be supplied with a file download. Virgin/Sprint HAS to push it to you, there is no other way around this and HTC has nothing to do with it except for writing it for VIRGIN to push to the phone.

According to both Virgin and HTC (when I phoned them just now), only HTC can supply this update.

The HTC rep indicated that you may have success with the update if you "Checkin" before checking for it.

So, goto your phone dialer, type in the following;

*#*#CHECKIN#*#*

or numerically;

*#*#2432546#*#*

Do not press call, but wait for the "checkin succeeded" message to appear on your notification bar, then head for;

Settings > System Updates > HTC Software update > "Check now" button at the bottom

and see if the update is now available.

Some folks mention that they needed to be on 3G (not wifi) to do the initial checkin.

Just tried... still no luck :( Stuck on 1.13

Aside from two small files (one is a theme file, the other a driver file that probably buffers the signal fluctuations), the update is exactly the same thing we have been doing for months in the "fix everything thread".

It's safe.

So if I've already made the changes in the "fix everything" thread, doing the OTA is kind of redundant right?

It's not necessarily redundant, just possibly a different version of what you have.

If you want the radio and firmware (most likely the latest Sprint stuff), flash it. The Hboot is probably the original Virgin.

No need for the whole update to get this stuff. Aren't you glad you didn't wait. :)

The PRI isn't better than the original.

So glad. I was about ready to send my phone back out of frustration with missed calls and texts. I actually missed my Triumph lol. Did the fix everything and it's been great ever since! Thanks again for the guide on that!

My son just received the update this morning. Hope it fixes the radio issues he has been having. He said the release notes mentioned it.

I got the following response via email:

at this time we do not have any way to push the OTA to your specific device. The OTA is pushed out to devices on a staggered schedule. It can take up to 45 days for an update to be pushed to all devices from the date that it started rolling out. For this update it started rolling out the week of Nov. 14th.

So I'd say around December 29th is 45 days. Kind of stupid they don't have a way of manually pushing this to customers who actually need it.

Thanks for checking. Good to know they are targeting 45 days...

I unrooted and ran RUU to get back to stock so that I could take the update (S-ON). I immediately checked the HTC Software Update option and was informed there was an update. The update was named 'Personalize' and was just over 1mb. I ran the update but my software version is still 1.13 - so what was my update?

Weird.

EDIT: Still no update after a reboot etc. I did update the PRL from the option and do see that I have full strength 4g. On Mobster ROM I would get 1-2 bars. One thing I never thought of is that Icant restore my Titanium Backup of all my apps on stock as Im unrooted - doh!

Looks like I will have to put up with stock until I see the update.

That was a minor update to the HTC personalization app that came out a couple of months ago, all you can really do at this point is wait.

Are people still waiting for the update? Reason I ask is because my girlfriend received a replacement and the only update that's been available is the personalization update. She's yet to receive the SMS radio error update and has already received a few error messages.

Another stupid question. If she swapped the SD card from her old EVO V 4G to the replacement phone, that shouldn't prevent her from receiving the radio fix update, correct?

I'm still waiting. I went back to stock and immediately got the Personalize update. The radio fix has still not arrived. I'm not sure why we would have to wait. You would think if the updates on the HTC server and we request the update that the update would be delivered.

As for the SD card, I cant see that affecting anything.

My gf received the personalize update right away too. I agree, the update should be available for everyone at this point. I'm gonna email HTC today to see what they say

Message from HTC:

Thanks for your reply Steve. I apologize, but device updates are not immediately made available to everyone at once. The updates are typically rolled out over a period of up to 45 days, with more and more devices being able to download the update each day. The update itself continues to be hosted for download for some time after download capabilities have been activated for every device. I do apologize, but you will need to continue to check for the update for a little while. We also don't have the ability to push the update out to a specific device, so we would not be able to escalate this situation to accomplish that. If you don't have the update in another week or so do please let us know and we'll be happy to look into what other options we have for you in this situation. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns as well, and thanks for being a member of the HTC community.

Sincerely,

Joseph

Thanks EasySteve. I guess we will just have to wait a while longer. Stock aint so bad. Ive noticed the following on stock:

  • Much stronger 4g reliability in the same areas
  • Great battery life. Almost 2 days on the stock battery
Starts to make you wonder why exactly we would want a custom ROM ;)

so is there any word on where gets the update? is it location based, or just random and spread out.
Has anyone else from new england area gotten it yet?
