I am using a laptop with a mobile broadband "dongle" connected via usb.
Therefore there is no WiFi.
If I connect my Moto G to the laptop, is it possible to update emails received on the laptop to the Moto G? If so, how?

I am not sure if what you ask is possible, but have you considered using your laptop as a wifi hotspot? There are multiple software solutions that allow you to do this. Here is just one:

Thank you for that answer. Unfortunately, trying to download your suggested site, too many other changes to settings were required. I got frightened and aborted!
I am rather ancient and my grasp of new technology finished with 78 rpm wind-up gramophones.
When I return home I shall get my son or grandson to have a go at setting up it for me. Thanks again.
As I mentioned, there are other options available... Your son or grandson should just search for "laptop as wifi router" and a multitude of options become available. Use the one that fits your needs. Maybe someone else can chime in on what they are using.
