Root "Recent" Apps Freeze Screen

All too often the screen on my Incredible (Cyanogen Mod 7) displays the icons for the eight most recently used apps in a 4 x 2 format.

The only way I can clear this screen is to hit the power button (briefly). I'm hard pressed to believe that this is normal behavior.

ADW Launcher is listed in the Apps but I think that this is part of the ROM. (Is it?) If I remove ADW what will I be left with? Might this be the culprit?

Any suggestions?

I would suggest trying to fix permission in clockworkmod or rom manager. might not do anything, but it would not hurt.

if you delete or remove ADW, there will be a popup saying you have no home launcher and you have to go to the market to download one.
