Root recent root gone wrong

O recently tried to flash my phone to 2.2 froyo but something went terribly wrong. I did further research and found out that the odin3 doesnt work on my batch number. so i downloaded the correct one for batch 1010 and when I went to the last step as fas as unzipping and selecting the (.tar) file, THERE WAS NO .TAR FILE IN THE FOLDER!!:( so can anyone help?!!

the .tar files arent in the file for me to use

I just did this to my phone as well. the file you downloaded is the tar file. Go ahead and extract it to a folder. Now open Odin and pick your pit file and then pick the pda part, it will browse for the tar file, on my computer it looks like a .rar file but it is in fact the .tar file. Pick it and it will work just fine.

BTW when you extract the .tar file, there is abunch of files in it that dont have .tar extensions on them, dont worry about that, just pick the sub file before you look at those files.

Something is wrong with your download, or you're forgetting to use the password when you extract the .rar

I just downloaded JH2 on my painfully slow T1 connection at work, extracted with 7-Zip using the password, and I have everything.

did this work for your phone and restore it?

Yes, just make sure to download the zip file from that page that NorCal Einstein posted for you. Listen to him, he is the one that helped me when I was in a bind. He knows his stuff.

This helped me out and it will help you. This will put your phone into version 2 software. Your phone was at version 7 before you bricked it. I am currently at version 2 as well, but the phone is completely operational.

after you use Odin to unbrick your phone to version 2, you have 3 options to update it back to version 7:

1. use samsung kies to update it. May or may not work for you. Didn't work for me.

2. Use the at&t over the air update ( OTA update ) by going to your settings and choosing check for updates. Not recommended and Norcal Einstein and others have stated that it may rebrick your phone.

3. Follow the steps outlined in the link Norcal Einstein provided after the ODIN section has been completed.

Now, if you are wanting to flash to cognition ( like i was/am ) or what ever ROM you want, i don't know if you need to update to version 7 then flash or if it would be ok to just flash to cognition from version 2. That would be something Norcal Einstein or one of the other experienced helpful people could answer for you and I.

i just went for it and successfully installed my first ROM. I did exactly the same thing as you did. I went back to version 2 and then rooted and installed clockworkrecovery, then installed cognition 3.04. WOW is all i can say.. it was quite a ride getting to this point but cognition is freakin awesome. I did have a problem getting into recovery mode and i bet you will too. With your phone plugged into your computer, You will need to install SDK manager and then go into the windows command prompt and then find the SDK files. I installed it directly to my C: drive, so in command prompt i typed " cd c:\android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\ and then hit enter. command prompt with now look like this

c:\android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\>

now type " adb reboot recovery " and hit enter. this will boot your phone into recovery mode and then you select your clockworkrecovery file from there.

hope this helps.
