Help Reception problems?

I don't know if the phone reception on this particular model is bad or maybe I got a defective phone.

I had to call Virgin Mobile about it because I had problems with my data. It keeps switching 1x to 3g to 1x and so on....

I thought it was solved but it was not. Than I found out I can not place and receive phone calls so I have to call them again...

Now it's still doing 1x to 3g to 1x and so on...

So I call them again and I thought it been solved but I still have the problem.

Anyone else have this problem before I call them again?

Stock rom? Custom? If its happening on multiple, it could be a hardware error...or if its pure stock it could be as well. I had the problem on a few custom roms...do you get good reception where you are?

Mine always did that, on any rom. I always assumed it was the network. I don't recall if the Optimus V had that issue, but I'm pretty sure it did.

I think its a common issue for the triumph.If you get on CM7 ROM you can force the phone to stay on 3G or 1X.Down side of forcing 3G is that you won't get texts or calls.The CDMA (1X) is needed for text and calls but can be used for data but it's very slow.3G is just for data only and it's basicly faster data.

I just completed a three week road trip and I thought there would be coverage on interstates at least. There was no coverage at all for us in South Dakota or Wyoming. The only spot indicated for coverage in Wyoming is Yellowstone and there was not a Triumph signal there.

Looking back I would have tried to rent a Verizon phone in case of a breakdown on a 7500 mile trip. Coverage was indicated for along most of I-40 in Arizona and New Mexico, but did not become a reality until Amarillo, TX where spotting coverage began.

Do not rely on this VM for road trips in the west.

@Prinny

I am using stock right now.

Since I am having problems, I am tempting to get insurance on the phone and root the phone. If anything goes wrong, I can get another phone and see what happens.

I didn't do it on my previous phone because I really have no need to root it. I did on my very first Android phone though.
