Help Reception with no Sim Card?

I didn't know how to search for this, but anyway I have a New Note with no sim card. I haven't activated it yet since I haven't receive the sim card. This is my first GSM phone so I'm really unfamiliar with this. Anyway, the phone shows the reception signal even though I don't have the sim card in it. Is that the signal I should expect to get when I do get the sim card in and activate it? It will be on AT$T using Straight Talk. Thanks for the help.

Could be that you get the same signal strength but I would not count on it. What you are seeing is the best carrier that the phone could locate to allow you to make emergency calls. If that is AT&T then great, if not then you may see different numbers of bars.

I saw that myself today when I reset my phone without the Sim in it. Have no idea why it was showing reception :-/

Like I said, you don't need a sim card to make emergency calls. This has been a required feature of GSM phones and networks for quite some time.

Ths is @$&#ing awesome! FREEDOM! Activated phone. Reception is the same as before I put the sim card in. Tjanks guys. This can be locked.
