Recommend Android with qwerty

Patman1

Newbie
Hey folks I hope I posted this in the right forum

As you can tell im new to the forum but a long time reader

My previous phone was the HTC Desire HD and even thou that was a great phone it had its bad points like battery and camera

I like phones with a good auld keypad but since that's die-ing off :( I hope to get going with qwerty keypad. You see im not a fan of touch screen txting.

I would like a phone that has qwerty of course but a great camera, wifi, great battery. Basically better specs than the Desire HD (if possible)

Any recommendations please?

What carrier are you using/prefer? Any other important "must haves" aside from the physical qwerty keyboard?

Hey cds

Doesnt matter about the carrier

other must haves would be

wifi
5mp or above camera
medium to large screen
a good battery (that will last longer than the desire hd would)

thats all i can think of at the moment

Might want to take a look at the phone I have, the Epic 4G on Sprint. It has

- 5mp digital camera
- 4" super amoled screen
- has wifi and 3G and 4G if you're in a area that Sprint has 4G service
- battery life is fair for a smartphone imo
- 5 row slide out qwerty keyboard

If you would like to have a phone to compare to it, also take a look at the Droid 2 on Verizon

- 5mp digital camera
- 3.7" VGA display
- Has wifi and 3G
- I don't know about the battery life, never used it (Has the same 1400 mAH lithium ion batter that the Epic 4G has)
- 4 row slide out qwerty keyboard

The Droid 2 lists Android 2.2 as the OS, and the Epic 4G lists Android 2.1 ... however when I bought my Epic, it had Android 2.2 on it when I got it, so they both should be using the same OS as well. Honestly the best way to find out which one is right for you, is to go into a Verizon/Sprint/AT&T/T Mobile store and actually play around with the phone a little, and get some hands on with it. That will let you get a feel for the phone and what will be best for you in the end.

I have an HTC Desire Z. It's a good phone with a keyboard. However, the camera is not very good at all.

The Droid 3 (or Milestone 3, assuming they use that name overseas) should be out this summer. Expected to be an 8mp camera, no less than a 1GHz processor, maybe even dual core, 4" screen. If I absolutely had to have a keyboard, that'd be the way I'd go.

Yeah, the EPIC fits about everything you're looking for in a phone. I would have suggested it, but Cds already did. I'm on sprint, and the coverage isn't too terrible. Better thatn most of my friends on AT&T.

This guy is most likely not in the US if he had a Desire HD. So his options are the Desire Z or the Motorola Milestone 2. Those are about the only 2 high end world phones with a keyboard.

I know you say the carrier doesn't matter, but if you are using a Desire HD, I assume you are in Europe somewhere? That ould mean the carrier (or at least your general location) would matter very much. Some of the phones people are suggesting here wouldn't even be available on your networks if you are indeed in Europe.

I used to be like you! Had to have a keyboard. Try a phone with swype and you will change your mind! I did. You should get a tmobile g2x or I'd you must have akeyboard get a g2

Sorry Swype is not an end all solution for those who love keyboard phones. Swype has a learning curve some people.

myself, I hate Swype which is why i never use it lol and im great with the onscreen keyboards but some people are Swype pros....Personally i think it's stupid but ehh, to each their own

and like the guy said, if you are using an HTC Desire HD then you must be in Europe or somewhere and my knowledge of European Devices is a limited. I mainly know about the Galaxy S line and HTC phones
