Recover deleted photo folder?

This has happened a few times when I'm organizing the camera folder while connected to my PC. I try deleting one photo and it deletes the whole folder. I lost photos that I really wanted. I've looked at data recovery apps...but they only work if you're rooted. I figured I would go ahead a root mine....but from what I've read it will delete all my data, therefore it wouldn't recover my lost photos. Is this all true?

I have installed Dumpster but don't know if that will work if the photos is deleted from my PC.

Thoughts?

Once you unlock the Bootloader it will delete everything on your phone.

It's too late for those photos, but I use dropbox and every photo I take gets uploaded to that when ever I am connected to wifi. They actually gave me more free space if I do this.

If by some chance you're still on 4.2, you can use the framaroot method to root without unlocking.

First you need to connect your phone from laptop or computer through data cable and then employ Remo Recover for Android utility to recover your lost photos. It may aid you very well. I have recovered my lost videos from this tool and it worked as per my satisfaction.

I also use dropbox to backup my photos, with storage being limited however (5gb if I remember). Google+ can also do this also, if you backup the photo at full resolution it'll start to use your google allowance (15gb?), or there's unlimited storage if you agree to them being uploaded at 2,048 pixels along its longest edge.
