Root - Recovering from Virgin Mobile Animation Boot Loop -

The phone is already rooted. I tried to install a ICS theme on it and it got stuck on a boot loop. Thats too much to go through for a 100 dollar phone. I will probably just return it Anyway thanks for your help. What happens if I install this http://androidforums.com/elite-all-things-root/621574-ics-elite-theme-optimus-elite.html zip file from sd card onto the phone through that clockwork mod ? Will the phone be functional again ?

Do you have ClockworkMod Recovery installed already?

Does your phone have the ZV5 update installed?

If so, I can create a ZIP file you can install in ClockworkMod Recovery which will fix it.

Also, if you have ClockworkMod installed already and made a backup using it, then you can just restore from the backup which will also fix your problem.

If you never installed ClockworkMod before installing the ICS theme, then fixing it isn't as easy.

I understand. Without having ClockworkMod Recovery installed before you installed these files, it will be more difficult to get your phone working, but the steps required have been explained to you already.

Even if you had ClockworkMod installed and used it to install these modified/themed APKs, you might still have problems because they were created based off the ZV4 software. Many/most people are running the ZV5 updated software now which I believe is not compatible with these themed APKs. But if you did have it installed already, even if you hadn't created a backup which you could have restored from, I would still have been able to upload a ZIP file which you could install in ClockworkMod which would have restored the original files.

I bet new themes based on the ZV5 update will come out soon and they will be flashable in ClockworkMod which will avoid the problems you're experiencing.

I'm sorry for the trouble you're experiencing.

If you give me some time I might be able to create an update.zip file which you could flash in the stock recovery (which is currently installed on your phone where ClockworkMod would be if you had installed it). You would only need to copy the ZIP file to the root of your sdcard (/sdcard/update.zip) and boot into the stock recovery. I cannot guarantee this will work, but if you would like to try it, I'll try to create the ZIP for you.

Would be grateful if you can do that....I can try anything rite now...

Try this update.zip. I don't know whether or not it will work, but you might as well try. If this does not work, you can try the other method which has been offered already.

Download update.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

There is no way to do that. The phone recognizes the internal memory as the sd card and since the phone is not booting up I cannot put this .zip file on the phones internal memory. I checked by booting the phone up without sd card inserted on it, it showed the files of the phones internal memory as the flies on a sd card. Is there any other way to make the phone find this .zip file ?

Fair point. I didn't think it through enough.

The only thing that might work is using ADB to transfer the file to the phone while connected to a computer with the Android SDK installed. I know ADB shell doesn't work in the stock recovery, but I can't remember if ADB push works or not in the stock recovery mode.

BTW, when is the boot-looping? At the LG Logo or later on at the VM boot animation?

I suppose the best way to fix it is to flash the phone back to stock as was suggested earlier.

Sorry for getting your hopes up.

Its keeps repeating the VM boot animation...
I have no idea how to push that update.zip to the internal memory using adb push...where can i download it ?

Or I will just replace this phone...if its too much hassle

You would need to install the Android SDK on your PC and the USB drivers from LG's website.

If your PC is running Linux, then you probably don't need to install the drivers from LG.

It may be too much hassle for you.
