Root Recovery Mode

I'm a newbie and still learning. How do you wipe data? I've read elsewhere you have to do it in recovery mode. I can't get it to work. I've tried the power button/vol keys to no avail. Someone recommended Quick Boot app, which doesn't work either...for me anyway. It just reboots and get the Android bot with an ! inside a triangle.
 
Sounds like you don't have CWR (custom recovery) installed on your phone ..... There is a thread with instructions and a link to download the recovery on the ALL THINGS ROOT page.... Once you have CWR installed you can wipe data flash roms all that good stuff I recommend making a backup before you do anything
 
Ok, I can get into recovery now, but what is the point of data wipe? The options say "data wipe/factory reset". I don't want a factory reset. I want to install Gingersteem. Wouldn't that reset the phone and erase everything? I wish people would post instructions that are more clear, easier to understand.

If you want the new Rom to be stable you will have to wipe the data.
 
That's great. I thank the people that make these things work, but for the love of candy, post instructions in black and white that are easy for the dumbest person on the planet to understand. Not everyone is as educated as you.
 
In addition, if I do this data wipe/factory reset, how do I restore my backup? Won't that be deleted too? I don't get this.
 
Data wipe doesnt touch your external SD card but it will erase all the apps you have downloaded. It gives a clean slate for the new rom to work with instead of using data that was created by your previous rom which can cause problems.

I already answered you in another thread . You backup by going into cwr then backup/restore > you get two option 1. Backup to "backup, obviudobviously" and 2. restore to restore!!!

There's an option in recovery called backup and restore. Go to it and click backup. It will then create a backup to your external sd named with today's date. If you ever need to restore go back to backup and restore and click restore. Its that easy.

How do I get into cwr???

Sorry for so many questions but I'm new to this and wanna get everything right tha first time...

At long last we now have a custom recovery for the LG Esteem, actually make that 2 recoveries, Clockworkmod and Raidzero. ;) Both are Release Candidates and still have a couple of minor issues to be worked out yet.


  • USB Mass Storage doesnt work on either recovery yet.

  • Fix permissions is working correctly.
  • Factory reset from settings doesnt work correctly, do it from CWM.


Both zips contain scripts for windows and linux, just download to your pc, unzip, and run the appropriate one for your OS. Both zips are All In One, meaning it will root and install CWM or RZR in one step.


  • Download zip to your computer
  • Unzip zip
  • turn on and put into Internet connection mode
  • Make sure debugging is enabled in settings > applications > development.
  • Connect phone to computer via USB cable
  • run the install script for your OS


Booting into recovery with the button combo is a lil tricky (gonna work on this) vol +- and power from power off, it will boot to the LG Reset screen, press power 3 times, dont freak out, it wont erase your data ;), and then recovery will appear. Some ROMs are already in the works n will be ready soon, one including reboot to recovery options in the power menu. ;)



  • Button Combo: VOL +- and POWER, press power 3x at LG Reset Screen.
  • App - Quick Boot
  • App - ROM Manager - no other features will work until CWM is submitted and officially built with RM support by koush.

NOTE: Root doesnt work for the ZVC update, just ZVA and ZVB, but the root method will be updated as soon as one that works is available.

NOTE: I will be updating RZR as I get the few issues left fixed, but after that I wont be supporting it due to what all I already have on my plate. It is a nice recovery tho with a ton of features. Not for the novice or complete n00b IMO tho. ;)
