Root Recovery problem

My friend has Droid X, rooted, completely stock, still on 605.

They asked about update, so I downloaded current 621 files (not thru OTA, but from xda forum).

My problem: I cannot get her phone to go into recovery. I clicked on bootstrap, but when try to access recovery, just get black screen. If I try to access CWM recovery thru ROM manager, I get download error, but no recovery.

My phone is HTC, so I'm pretty ignorant about motorola...help! :-)

Thanks!

Which bootstrap they have?
And 621 breaks root I think. So why not stay at 605?

Your getting a black screen because your using droidx bootstrap on gingerbread. Just go in settings >applications>development and make sure usb debugging is unchecked then it will work. Anyway if your trying to update to 621 by SBFing you need to do that in bootloader mode not clockwork recovery. To get in bootloader mode power off the phone then press and hold the camera button and also volume down button then hold in power button also. Continue holding in all 3 buttons till you see the screen flash then release the power button followed by the other buttons.
