Root Recovery Root Flash....wtf?

i downloaded Velocity v0.4 for my LG Ally unzipped and intalled, when i went into Su permissions....(dunno why i installed from my sdcard) ....it asked me to auto update and the following error occured: An error occured and su was not updated. A zip file(su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sd card, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary. HOW DO I GET INTO RECOVERY AND WTF IS FLASHING.... all the ways that forums say to get into recovery ie:hold power home and menu, hold menu and power on etc......... its not doing anything????? please someone guide me through this process asap i will be at work so i will have ample time to do this Thanks in advanced.....one more thing ...if by a miracle i get this thing to boot in recovery what is flashing and how do i do it?

Did you try home,power,vol up?
Actually..you should go to the irc ally chat room via phandroid app or links are on android forums. The ppl there can walk you through the steps.

Well. Problem number one is - you aren't supposed to unzip Velocity to begin with. PLEASE please read the instructions found at the top of the forum on rooting and flashing recovery etc. If you don't know what Recovery is, you need to find that out before you start trying to use a custom ROM.

Don't worry, friend - you'll figure it all out with a little research and effort.
