Help recurring update & install failures/related issues?

RBow

Lurker
I was experiencing the Market problems described elsewhere in Google/Market and Verizon and Motorola forums (updates stalled at "updates will begin shortly"; new apps simply failing to install; previously purchased apps showing in history as "purchased" rather than "installed"), in addition to other problems: all apps on the SD card disappearing from the phone, along with everything else stored there -- although oddly the apps still appeared in the list in "Applications" in "Settings." In addition, Gmail was loading slowly or not at all, offering me the choice to FC or wait and if I chose wait it mostly would end up closing anyway.

At first, since I hadn't learned about the ongoing Market issues, I was worried that it was the SD card -- my 1st SD card, the one that came with the phone (Droid X) corrupted within a month, taking everything stored there with it, and Verizon had to replace it. But a quick check of the card in the card reader connected to my laptop eliminated that possibility (which wouldn't have explained the other stuff anyway).

However -- I tried the various suggestions I found (going to Market in settings, deleting file info, clearing cache, removing battery, rebooting, restarting), tried again with "Update All" and fantastic! not only did all updates download, but everything that had been missing reappeared, shortcuts that had grayed out on my home pages were filled in again, and everything was unicorns and rainbows again.

That was how I spent the past two days, and last night I went to bed a happy camper.

So this morning I woke up to no Gmail again and decided I'd just reboot, turn off and on. Arrrgh! When the phone rebooted, it was right back where I had been before with the loss of connection to SD card content, the inability to download from Market, the Gmail failures...

I CAN'T do this every day, or even more frequently, just to keep the d*mn phone going. I still have affection for Android, and I *want* to make it work -- but my husband wants to make Verizon take it back and give me an iPhone at no cost.

HELP!
