The little red light by my front camera on my andriod ZTE keeps blinking. What's causing this? It's it I virus or someone hacked into my phone?

I believe that is a notification, either email, text or app.
I take it the red light is on and the screen is off? If so, then see this page:
Or is it just on while your device is on? If so, it sounds like an overheating problem?
More information would be helpful (i.e., specific device name/model, version of Android, state of device, screen shot, what happened before the red light came on, etc...).
