Root red triangle with explanation mark?

trying to reboot into recovery, and i get up to the point of my screen going white, saying htc evo blah blah blah, and instead of recovery, i get a black screen with a picture of an evo, and an red triangle with an explanation mark? what does this mean?

It means that you failed to flash the custom recovery. Try again.

Yes, Calkulin came out with a flashable version right after the original release. Here is what I think happened... You had a PC36IMG.zip file left on your sd card after you first rooted and bootloader flashed that file rather than the 1.77 update.

i like how ive been asking this everywhere even started a thread at xda.

so what is the solution?
ive tried everything i can find and no go. im stock 2.2, unrooted and s-off. yes unrooted and s-off. i need it turned on to send my phone in

You need to have a custom recovery in order to flash the S-ON tool. When you unrooted your phone you reverted back to the stock recovery.
 
wouldnt the clockworkmod that i had on there taken care of that?

and how do i flash a custom recovery.....might as well pull all the punches and learn on a jacked up phone

of course i guess if i could find a damn recovery somewhere and try to flash it that might work. i cant search anymore its been 3 days

It would but since you unrooted, your custom recovery has been replaced by the stock recovery which will not allow you to flash the S-ON tool. Just use this to root again and flash a custom recovery: public:unrevoked2 [RootWiki].

Once it is done, place the S-ON zip on the root of your sd card and flash it through clockwork. This will re-enable nand protection.

It is now safe to unroot.
 
loads up just fine, this one isnt activated tho since i got my replacement yesterday which is having the same issues that got me a replacement in the first place.

can send pics but not receive.

cant send or receive texts

can make calls but cant get calls.

everything else works just fine. so its been determined as some sort of network issue which means im without a phone for another 3 days (network engineers will call me within 72 hours blahblahblah)


7 tries all ending in "failed to flash recovery"

so for now i just want to get it back to factory in case i do have to send this one in, and if i dont well i want it straightened out anyhow.
 
sounds like you have the same luck as me when it comes to phones lol. But, i got frustrated trying to get everything back to factory settings, so i got it as close as i possibly could. The only thing i could see that was left was the s-off. I even brought it to a Sprint store and they didnt notice the s-off, so if they got blamed then i still didnt hear anything about it. I would say as long as it boots to original Evo screen, then just go ahead and send it in. Or you can keep trying to get a recovery on there. If you do attempt to keep trying then i suggest getting the one-click root, which automatically puts a recovery on there, turn s-on and then unroot again by flashing the PCimg
 
yea thanks i did all that to get rooted to start with. i thought you mean the other "one click root" program.

not to sure i even care now because sprint still cant seem to find out why i cant send/rec mms and texts and such. i have however taken an interest in the G2 coming to tmobile
