Rediculously long boot time?

How to disable the media scanner? I have root.

If you disable it, then the phone will not be able to keep an accurate list of your images and videos, until reboot. You can also disable it so it does not scan during boot as well. If you want to do this you can try several apps in the market...heres one where you can rescan when you want and stop it from running all the time:

Im rooted, no overclock...and only removed bloatware....now my esteem gets stuck on the metropcs boot up, and turns itself off. the only way to turn it back on is vol up&down, tap power...but its starts over the same cycle! someone please give me some insight on how to fix this as soon as possible!

even tried battery pull. no luck. am i screwed on this one? with it being rooted, and less than a week old, can i take it back? can they tell whats wrong without getting into my system?

congrats never seen anything like that maybe u can experiment a lil bit. if i was u i would take off my external sd card to see if it boots up quicker or stays the same if it boots up faster without sd card perhaps ur sd card is faulty and like pg said once a faulty card can make also make ur phone heat up too.

also if you have alot of apps install, make sure you move them to the sd card that will also cause longer boot time specially on a stock phone.

Yep, too many apps will slow down the boot. I don't think it matters if they're on the SD or not though since most of the slowdown is from the apps loading into the background during boot.

Its you're internal memory. I had the same problem and spent all weekend trying to fix it. the more apps stored on you're internal memory the longer the boot time. This is what i did. I moved all my user apps to my sd card EXCEPT the ones that have widgets on my homescreen. Moving an app to the sd card will disable its widgets. Make a backup first then use titanium backup to move as many user apps the sd card as you can. That will speed up youre boot time. Consequently when the phone does boot up it will take a while for the apps on the sd card to show. So take youre pick. quicker bootup or wait for the apps to show when the phone does boot up.

I've yet to time it, but, my Esteem feels like it takes 3-4 minutes to boot up. Anyone else seeing anything like this?

It's rooted and debloated... and yes, I've done a battery pull.

Use Android Commander to perform a logcat while you boot, while connected to USB (in debugging mode).... you will see what's going on line by line. if anything fails you can see what it is. then try to figure out why.

I discovered that the LG Esteem internal memory "space" gets fragged after too many app/pic installs/removes or any data... just over time period.

FORMATTING THE INTERNAL SD (I pulled my 32GB card out just to be safe) WILL IMPROVE BOOT TIME....

Even better Idea (what I do)...

1 I deleted the 20GBs of music from my 32GB SD (I'm on $70 plan so rhapsody is awesome, I just stream 4g all the time) It Caused my media scan time to be over 10 min.

2I pulled ONLY the files I NEEDED from card pics/roms/ect,
3 Formatted the 32GB SD (using the Esteem not my CPU. I formatted card on PC one time, It was ridiculously slow.)
4 put my pics/roms back on SD.
5 I used CWM to Format internal SD, system/data/fatory reset, cleared cache/davilik, then installed GSEII ROM and plague Kernal.
Once I got my wallpaper/settings tuned (but no apps) I performed A CWM backup.

A restore point On a fresh rom install with formatted internal/external SD's IS AWESOME

System slows down? restore it to fresh. The entire Disk image is new, so it's not fragmented. it BOOT's FASTER.
Just resintall any apps you need (I added all my apps into the ROM.zip, So I don't waste time with titanium backup anymore)

it's what I've Done the last 20 years on PC's fresh windows install, on formatted drive.
I do it every few months on my laptop, and about once a month on my Esteem.

One Great thing with "Rom Manager" you can click the restore point, go smoke one, come back and the phone is at the lock screen fully restored. Unlike manually flashing in CWM then rebooting yourself. the Rom Manager is Automatic. goes into CWM restores and reboots itself. I LOVE IT.

TAKE MY ADVICE, AT LEAST FORMAT INTERNAL SD every once a while if you dont want to restore.

Holy shit that's one hell of a process...

Anyway, got am esteem two days ago, glad it was free.
Well, it's taking an average of 3 minutes from power button to lockscreen and up to 1 minute to run media scan fully... think this will help?

My other phone boots and finishes scanning in about 1min so maybe I'm just spoiled.

Both phones currently have the same six APPS and all bloat removed. Using rom toolbox to increase sd read speed.

Mine takes a couple of minutes to boot too......

OK, I just finished reading all the responses after I posted this, and the long boot time is just normal for this phone, I guess. No biggie. I do other things while it's booting up.

Lol, just did the same, Oh well.

I'm going to mess with the start-up manager and see if that helps.

Mine boots in 1:05 and I have like 40 apps lol but I did mess with the startups on ROM toolbox though. Lmao at the glad it was free you're a funny mofo .
Edit:forgot to add that I'm on the #2 ROM by Ldrifta

Flashing #2 at lunch, as a preview for my connect.

Got boot on the esteem down to 130 for the whole shebang (boot&mediascan )

i clocked mine at 58 sec on zvb with plague kernel and broken out rom

Yeah, I'm still @ 130 on #2.... w/o startup manager aid.

The difference that the baseband updates made to this thing is ridiculous BTW... at first it took a few seconds for even the dialer to open but it is almost even with my connect on brokenout running @704 MHz.

Granted the connects gpu helps a lot when underclocked. But the esteems battery hasn't died yet today after four flashes and some Wi-Fi whereas my connect needed a charge @ 8pm

i dont know if it matters as well but im using a different boot up animation that isnt very long but i doubt that contributes to the boot up time.

Mine goes on anywhere from 5 to 6 min... if i'm lucky will do about 4 min... not rooted and got a 16gb sd on it.
