Reduce System ROM

I'm sure there is a thread or two that addresses this somewhere, but I can't find it. My system ROM is nearly full. How can I reduce it?

Root phone, then use Titanium Backup to remove "some" of the system apps. Be very careful in which ones you remove. Only pick ones that are available via Market for download (those would then download as user apps). I do not recommend converting stock ROM system apps to user apps (requires Titanium Backup Pro)... rarely works right. Would suggest a CWM backup first regardless of what you do.

The Dark Side of the Force is strong with this one. Listen to him. Stand with us on the Dark Side (we have cookies as well as kick ass ROMs).

I use TB and have TB Pro. I have removed all that I feel comfortable removing. I tried changing system apps to user apps and fried my phone. I just got it "reimaged" yesterday.

I rooted my phone some time ago, then just reimaged it yesterday using something that was suggested to me in these forums (don't remember the name). What is an alternate ROM that is available?

Yeah, most of the stock apps don't fare well when converted to user apps. That's why I suggest just uninstalling them with TB and reinstall them through Market. Works fine then.

As you can see just above (thanks Lordvincent 90), there are plenty of choices. Trying to recommend one over another is like asking which is better... Ford or Chevy.

If you want the smallest step into the world of ROMs, I'd suggest CTMod. It is based on the stock ROM. If you like it and want more/different tweaks, then you can advance to the other CTMod offshoots.

After you try CTMod and/or it's offshoots for a while and you want to just see what else others have come up with, then try CM7. It has a lot more options, but does take more effort on your part to read and understand.

Actually the updated versions of 187MoD have been re done from stock-rooted gingerbread. I did use somethings from CTMod, but it's more or less stock, themed, with a few other small tweaks.
