Help refreshing sim data message?

I have been getting a message displaying on my VZW Note2 "refreshing sim data" and it displays for a few seconds, disappear and reappears again in a bit.
I also keep getting a pop up message of "connected to wifi network messages"

Why is it doing this? What does it mean to "refresh" the sim data?

Don't know much details about this but I found that if I changed the Network mode from GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) to GSM only, the 'Refreshing SIM data' messages stopped.
