Refurb?

Jimbo670

Has anyone bought the EVO from the Radioshack special. I am sure it will be a refurb. What are the thoughts on that? Not sure if I want that or not. Please give me some input. It would be great to save 100 but not for a bunch of trouble.

This thread got moved. So I am thinking it will not be seen. Does anybody have input on ANY refurbished EVO. Not sure if it's worth the risk. Looking fo opnions.

The RS Evo's cannot be refurbished unless they are marketed as such. I got mine from Wirefly for $119 with shipping, which is close in price, and and it's not a refurb.

If you want to be sure, before you walk out of the store with it, type ##786# on the phone dialer menu and scroll down to the Reconditioned Status and Date line. If it says <Not Available>, its not a refurb.

However, I did have to have my launch day Pre replaced with a refurbished unit and it was of better quality than my original.

Check for refurb using the tip above or simply asking. Also as far as refurbs, I don't care for them if the reason for refurb is revealed. I wouldn't buy from anywhere that didn't openly provide that information. I don't mind phones that are refurbed for some reasons (broken switches or other simple mechanical fixes). I'm not a fan of refurbs with repaired circuit boards, charging ports (had that issue with one of my Evos), and other things that often and commonly tend to reoccur.

I bought 2 EVO's from Radio Shack On-line.

Brand Spanking New phones - not used. The transaction went smooth and the service from RS was super. One phone was to replace my HTC Hero, another for add a line with port.

1st EVO $30 bucks ( Phone $99 minus 70 credit for extending my Sprint contract).

2nd EVO $99.

$130 for two brand new evos. No taxes, free 2 day shipping.

Thats a great deal @joe123 were they just the black EVOs or the white ones? let me know how your experience is with Radioshack Online.

Black ones. I checked the phones using the "##786#" (great trick) and they are brand new.

The service from Radio Shack on-line was GREAT! Easy, straight forward and I was able to chat with them at various times when I needed to ask them questions. The service was really great and I will use them again.

I tried wirefly.com, but they were just horrible and more expensive.

During the Christmas week, the EVO's were going for $99 bucks, NO-TAX, free 2-day shipping, free bluetooth, free return free lable in case I wanted to return it.

Same EVO at my Local Sam's Club is $170, then I have to pay ~$50 bucks more for taxes because taxes are based on origional retail of $500 and no free bluetooth.

I also called my local Radio Shack store and the deal was worse than Radio Shack on-line. Local Radio Shack store was $99 BUT I had to pay taxes, bring in an old phone and no free bt.

I HIGHLY recommend Radio Shack ON-LINE ( no taxes ) :D

Thats great that you had a great experience with RadioShack Online. Just FYI, wirefly and radioshack On-Line are both managed by a company called Simplexity. Their prices change a little between the both of them but its deffinently the same company based out of Reston, VA. Enjoy your phones!

The only ones who can sell Refurbish phones are Sprint.

No one else is allowed to SELL Refurbished phones as new.

It would be fraud. And a million-dollar lawsuit

Yes, you are correct - the web sites are almost identical.

I first started with wirefly.com but ended up with RadioShack. When the EVO's were $99 with free shipping and free bluetooth, wirefly.com was $159 with no bluetooth.

Big difference in prices for being the same company.
