Help Regarding always on mobile data...

Hello guys,
Registered to ask this question. I've searched and searched but still have not found a answer that satisfies me. I have the EVO and have been experimenting with mobile data on and off. I think I've found what it does. Some I've heard say the phone wakes up 3g to sync weather, mail, twitter etc even though mobile data is off....I disagree. I think it only syncs if it's before the 3g connection goes to sleep. I've found that if I let the phone sit for an hour and then turn it on and quickly check what has been synced, most of the time none of the scheduled syncs will have been done. If mobile data is on it doesn't matter how long my phone has sat idle, they will sync on time.

Is this what most of you think is the case? I would leave it off if I had any confidence that mail, weather, facebook etc would continue to sync. Thanks for the help

The phone will send/receive data as scheduled when its connected to a data source whether Wifi, 3G, or 4G. If you are not connected to a data source then the phone will send/receive data as soon as you activate 3G, 4G, or Wifi.

I always leave mine off and I don't have any sync issues that I notice. I only update stuff every 3 hours or longer though. Even email, because I don't use my phone for work email its not important to me.

Try leaving it off for a full day and see how it goes. It should update. It should just power down the antenna when asleep and wake up when required.

He is not talking about turning off his network. He is talking about the mobile network always on setting with in wireless networks.

I have my "always on" disabled and i get my emails and notifications.

you should uncheck it, then shoot yourself an email from a desktop and see if you get it instantly.

ok did some more testing. if I have it off syncing is hit or miss. if it is supposed to sync within ten minutes or so of me turning of screen it will. however, if it is supposed to sync later and I leave my screen off through the sync time I find it doesn't sync. in the case of my hotmail it'll actually just skip that sync and tries the next hour. in other words always on mobile data needs to be on to ensure guaranteed syncing. at least on this phone, once the 3g antennae has gone to sleep syncing does not wake it up. I find this to be too bad, wish it couldl wake up the 3g. as for those who have always on on and test wish push email, the test is only accurate if the phone has been allowed to sleep for 10th minutes, otherwise the 3g has not gone to sleep in the first place
