Root Regarding the 2.3.6 Update & MetroPCS (Solved)

Any one have a clue what to do if my phone doesn't send video messages i have already been to metro pcs twice for my samsung admire on the 2.3.4 platform they said they reprogramed it and its still on the 2.3.4 program not 2.3.6

Everything seems to work, we just need to fix tge Market. I seriously don't think it's just me, but the Market won't allow me to download the apps I've always had since 2.3.4, but now I can't get them. Is it the Update or MarketEnabler?

Skype for Android is just one example, but I can't even download the damn backported ICS Keyboard without going "elsewhere."

i cant send any mms please helpp

DaKid, did you properly follow the instructions of the guide? If you didn't, you may want to take another look.

-----

I believe I can claim the title of being the first to soft-brick 2.3.6. I don't know what I did to get that way, but I just reflashed and my Data is still there so I did something right. :D Rerooting, flash, and all the other good stuff.

Fixing MMS (Send & Receive)
1- Download and place these files into the system folder (click here) you could use ES File explorer (Free Click Here To Download)... go to its setting and activate the root access along with changing the home directory to "/" you could do the file copying
2- Download & Install "APN Settings Shortcut"
3- Place a shortcut for the "APN Settings Shortcut" on one of your desktops
4- Restart your phone.
5- Run the "APN Settings Shortcut" and push on the menu button and choose "Reset to defaults"

Now you should be able to send and receive MMS messages.

after fixing the MMS the market will not work, if you need to download something you have to run "MarketAccess" or "Market Enabler".. this will disable the MMS and to fix the MMS back you have to restart your phone and apply the APN reset again.

:: looking for a fix for this is on the way

i dont understand can someone please help me with thiss? pleasee

First off all, I have to ask: Have you rooted your Samsung Admire? If you haven't these steps won't work.

---

I've been playing around with my Admire (Android 2.3.6) "build.prop" file. I'm considerably tweaking it, and I may be able to upload it soon. I recently discovered a tweak that I want to say 'unlocks a "hidden" wallpaper'. I'm looking to speed it up more, I'll see what I can get.

Been watchin this thread.Ty for all the info!! I live in Vegas and have metro pcs with the Admire. Anyway my net speed sucks! Ive called and they swear its 3g reset my phone ect..although it says 1x. Friend has a cricket with 3g and we can watch a YT vid on his phone and still be waiting for mine to load:eek:...Sooo can i take this phone flashed with raw 2.3.6 to cricket and switch my service?

OK, I did the fix MMS and I still get MMS transaction is failed.
HTTP 500 error
Rabble! Stupid phone

Edit, And now i'm not even getting that, just forever sending

Edit edit, ok, got it to work with Handcent SMS not stock messageing, how odd

Here is a .ZIP containing 2 Build.prop files. One is "HQ" and the other is not. They both contain the same modifications except the "HQ" uses an experimental code to change the resolution of the phone making the UI look slighly smaller.

It is experimental, I'm not responsible for damage to your Admire.

>> For use with 2.3.6 ONLY <<

Comments included for quite a number of tweaks. Change to fit yourself as well.
If anybody needs help, I will post a full installation guide tomorrow. Advanced users only tonight, please.

Short Installation:
> Using ADB/the SDK or a File Explorer with Root Access, install either Build.prop to /system/:

Permissions should be: rw-r--r--
Owner should be: Root/Root

I'm not sure about this

But if you deactivate the MetroPCS so it is no longer in the MetroPCS network list it should be able to get register at the Cricket network.

this is a guide to activation process.

I think that activating it automatically or manually inserting the information with QPST will get the phone working on Cricket.

So this how it would go

1- Deactivating the phone from MetroPCS.
2- Activating the phone by registering the phone ESN with cricket.
3- If needed edit the connection information manually with QPST.

I never done this before and I'm not sure if it is going to work (it's just the basic way of activating any phone)... the only different is that you want have the OS that is shipped originally with Cricket Admire phones.

Cool ill try this today and post results later tyvm :)

No luck wont except the meid says i cannot use this phone.. i think for 30 days after deactivation metro pcs holds onto the number or something... cricket wont activate it online over the tele or walk in :(.

Hey there,

Tried this out today and the data/market fixes worked great. The MMS fix I have not been able to get to work.

I went through the instructions and copied the system files using ES File Explorer into the system folder right from the phone. I have root access and enabled it in ES File Explorer before doing this.

I then downloaded the APN Settings Shortcut from the Market, put the shortcut on my desktop and rebooted phone (power off and power on). Ran the APN Settings Shortcut app and did the reset to defaults. I'm not sure if a profile is supposed to appear once I do this, but none did. Tried to send an MMS message with a picture and never sent, eventually kicking back a failure icon.

Can we add these settings manually to the APN Settings Shortcut app or does it need to pull from those system files to work properly?

Fixing Android Market.

1- Download Market MarketAccess(Click Here) & Install
2- Choose one of the US provider or insert 720667 for MetroPCS

Would i be able to repleace with SpawnHyuuga's HQ Build he posted? or so just copy everythinng in the "etc" folder..and put in in the /system folder?
I only say this because Im very satisfied of how the HQ looks.. will i still be able to stll fix the MMS error?

Well I saw that I missed the 2nd Part of the MMS how-to fix by deleting and copying the new mms.apk file. You should probably edit the first post and make this easier to find..

After copying over these files and re-copying the system files, rebooting the phone, then re-applying the APN settings to default, I was able to send/receive MMS.

i rooted my phone and did the update and my phone rebooted .my mms and data work ,but i check my about phone and still says 2.3.4. is that normal . i thought it was suppose to change to 2.3.6. how do i know if my phone is on 2.3.6.
