Help Regarding the Cell Radio

I heard this phone is good and stuff but I heard it has a weak cell radio, what does that specifically mean, lower signal or lower speeds or both?

Some people report that the radio is weaker in the phone in others, I didn't personally have an issues I think it might be a tower problem.

Hmm well this phone is really tempting but I keep hearing that it has a weak radio and idk if its worth getting this or the F7

I'm in a pretty good coverage area so I don't really notice the weak radio. If you are in a low coverage area you might notice it though.

Oh so do I, I don't lose signal anywhere around the city I live, but some places I get bad data speeds. I wonder if the weak radio makes the speeds worse

The data speeds aren't from the radio, they are from the network. I live in a great coverage area and didn't get more then 500k

Oohh so if you live in a city with good coverage then the radio won't really matter then?

What's up bro?

I live in an area where I get little to no radio signal and I get good data speeds. Check this post out. Here are a few speed tests I've done, 2 over 3g and 1 over home wifi. I've actually gotten even faster 3g speeds too.

http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=6070580

As far as the radio/antenna, I've done quite a bit of research and it seems that the same radio/antenna installed in the One SV was installed in several of the HTC devices. Compared to other devices the users have owned, the HTC devices with this particular radio/antenna seem to get a lower signal. Sad but true.

It's all gonna boil down to where you live bro. If you live in an area where you get decent signal, you'll be ok. If you live in an area where signal strength is low, you may have issues.

Personally, my LG Marquee gets better radio reception than this phone does. 3g speeds are the same though. This goes along with the info shared by Mike. Data doesn't come from the radio.

If you live in an area where 4g is available, you are gonna be 1 happy camper. Some of the 4g speeds members have reported for this device are insane man. They are actually getting faster speeds over 4g than I do with my cable modem. Pisses me off too!! lmao :D

Lol wrong link bro xD and ooohhh I wonder if the HTC One has the same radio too just out of curiosity. And yea here in Las Vegas there's signal everywhere and get good coverage just bad speeds in some areas especially when they are still probably working on the towers here. So the radio issue is true awww sad face, but honestly it still hasn't stopped me from wanting this phone, especially cuz HTC phones are awesome, and I heard the F7 has a GPS issue and I need the GPS lol, but thanks for the help man

Here's the crazy thing bro.... I just hit the link I posted while I was in Tapatalk and it took me to the wrong place so I jumped on my pc and took a look.

The link I posted actually reads the original thread it was posted in " Poor Data Coverage". I click the link on my pc and it takes me right to my post where it shows the screenshot I posted. Toooooo freaking weird bro. I'm gonna make the change in the Tapatalk app and see what happens. :p:D

EDIT:

OK, looks like it's working properly now and the link takes you to my post w/ screenshot. Man, that was weird. lmao Thanks for the heads up on that 1.
:ridinghorse:

Also wanted to add that I fired the old Marquee up to play around with it for a bit and man oh man, it makes me ILL to see I'm getting full signal on IT and then I look over at my SV and it's struggling between 1 and 2 bars. Grrrrrrr!! IMO, HTC should recall these phones and put a BETTER radio/antenna in it. Just sayin. I'm sure that would happen....... NOT! Heh, lol.:p

Just remember the marquee and the sv have different radios in them. The Marquee has Wimax and the Sv has lte they are two different radio frequencies

Pretty sure your wrong there bro and it's CDMA. Wimax is for 4g is it not. The Marquee doesn't offer 4g.

EDIT: The Evo had Wimax.

Lol no problem xD and lol wow well at least it has no GPS problems like the F7 so yea SV over F7

Hey, don't get me wrong. I love my SV. It runs so flippin smooth man and it's an all around great phone. HTC just dropped the ball when they chose the radio/antenna. When I'm in town, I don't have any issues at all. NONE. It just kinda makes me mad when I'm sitting at my house and I have to call a person back several times due to the phone dropping the calls. Thankfully I can switch to wifi calling but still, I shouldn't have to do that when both my Samsung Prevail and LG Marquee are getting a good signal. Know what I'm sayin?

Hopefully we will get another tower out here or they'll upgrade the one that's here again. They just did some work on it a few years ago. My Marquee signal went from almost nothing to great. Sure would be nice if they would do something and I would see that happen with my SV. Ooohwee, that would make me a very happy individual.

biker we seem to having the opposite happene as my prevail never got a signal inside and i had to leave it in a windoe just to get texts. No such isdue eith my One SV. I do lose signal on occisan inside but i can also make and recieve calls fine unlike the prevail.

Hi Topken, nice to hear from you.

The 1st Prevail I had was like yours. My 2nd Prevail is the one that gets a better signal. Possibly because it's one of the newer models?

Mike and I discussed something last night and I'm trying ATM. I took my SV off LTE and am running on straight CDMA now. I don't have LTE in my area so there's really no sense in me running it. Since making the switch it looks like my phone is getting a better signal. Crazy huh? I will post back and let you guys know if it TRULY made a difference. I won't actually know until I start making phone calls. As of yesterday, my SV was dropping calls left and right. Same for the one I took back to Radio Shack. I thought I may have had a defective radio/antenna. When it didn't make a difference, that's when I started doing some research. ;)

I'll post in here tonight after I get a chance to make some calls from the house and let you guys know if making the change has made a difference. Fingers X. :D

UPDATE:

GUYS, after switching to straight CDMA, i haven't dropped a call yet while at the house tonight. I've only made about 5 calls but just the fact that none of them dropped REALLY surprised me. 5 calls in a row at my house with none dropped is a first!! :D

Coincidence, not sure yet. Only further testing will provide the answer. I just thought you guys would like to know what's up.

Those of you who are experiencing low signal and dropped calls, please try switching to CDMA only and see what kind of results you get. The more people we have testing this the better. Thanks.

LMAO!!! No flippin doubt bro. Ya got me. Like I said, I've got to keep testing it. Maybe tonight was just some kinda freak of nature or something.

I tested this with another network and the Boost network when making the test calls. I didn't get a dropped call from either. I'm not gonna go and get all excited yet but I've sure got a smile on my face right now! :D

We'll see what tomorrow brings. ;) Hopefully the same results. :)

Well hopefully its the same results then lol and, back to our last conversation, so a phone can get 1 to 2 bars and still get fast data speeds?

That could easily be since my prevail is from before they introduced the $55 a month android plan. But I am glad I get a better signal with the HTC One SV then I did with the prevail. Makes Leaving crappy straight talk better. had good coverage with my proclaim but very CRAPPY service out of straight talk. No data for a month and a half was a no go for me. I have great service with Boost Mobile but ok coverage with the One SV and crappy coverage with the Prevail. I have LTE south of me in northern Indiana considering I am about a mile from the michigan Indiana border in a little town called Edwardsburg here Zip code is 49112 if you want to take a look at coverage maps around here.

I will more then likely wait for about 2 maybe a little longer to upgrade my phone. Hopefully by then sprint/boost mobile will have their 800 mhz up and running around here with a few devices to make use of that band. Iden had great coverage around here while the CDMA coverage is crap. Would get like 4 bars inside with an old nextel phone and get just 1 with my cdma when they had inside coverage that is lol.

Right on man. Yeah, my 1st Prevail was 1st generation. I actually got it the 1st week Radio Shack started selling them. My 2nd one not only gets a better signal, it'll also hold the full overclock speeds and probably even a little more. It's definitely a nice one.

I'm glad your service is better now. That's always good news. I honestly love my SV. It's an all around great phone. It would sure be nice if Sprint/Boost could up their signal strength out here but it is what it is. I'm dealing with it as best I can.

Just another update on switching LTE off and to straight CDMA. I still have yet to drop a call. AMAZING!! One call got a little iffy but it didn't drop the signal so I call that a WIN in my book! lol. Only more testing will tell me if it's truly making a difference. One things a fact, we won't have LTE in my are for a good while to come. Sad but true. I look at some of the speeds these guys are getting from LTE and i just shake my head. lol.

Again, it's nice to see someone from the old days in here. Hopefully we'll be seeing a custom ROM or 2 in the near future. :D

A custom rom would be great as the HTC Bluetooth Stack still sucks badly lol. But glad to see your connection is holding with CDMA only
