You have one friend that did not know about the EVO 3D and all of a sudden that means the masses? We've discussed plenty how this phone has had barely any advertising. Please show a source that "geeks know about this phone."

5 hours is a long time. I've known plenty of stores that will stay open longer on the launch of a big item. Please provide a source saying that they wouldn't do this.

Where are you getting your information? Both Best Buy, Sprint, and Radio Shack are open on Sundays. Stores do not close on the day before July 4th unless they are a small business or Chik Fil A.

This forum is filled with phone geeks (True or False?) Go up to people with an HTC EVO that's not on this forum and ask them about the HTC EVO 3D. They will say the what? I have a female friend with the EVO. Doesn't know anything about the HTC EVO 3D and she doesn't really care about it. She just got her HTC EVO a few months ago. Since when has a Corporate Sprint Store extended their hours on a Sunday for a phone? And 3 July is before the 4th of July, so sprint would extend their hours on 3 July, one day before the 4th of July? Wouldn't make sense. I guess you didn't read my post about the store being open for 5 hours on a Sunday.

Ok so let's all agree that a Sunday is a possibility as is a Friday and any one of 5 other days in a week (EarlyMon check my math on that one). I personally think it would be stupid to release on 4th of July weekend as it is a big vacation/beach weekend but it is also a huge Weekend of Sales so maybe. I would lean more towards a June 3rd or June 24th-26th release for no particular reason.

Your post is logical and fills the void of common sense. Exactly, vacation weekend. Kids and parents leaving town with BBQs going on. But Sprint wants to sell the EVO 3D on 3 July? lol Your post makes sense.

All subjective answers. I know plenty of people who don't know what root is yet they know what the EVO 3D is.

The argument that "since when has a Corporate Sprint Store extended their hours on a Sunday for a phone" holds no water. That's like saying just because any person or corporation has not done something before that they will never do it in the future. Once again, why wouldn't extending hours (I'm not even under the assumption that they would need to anyways) make any sense? Big deal if it is the day before July 4th.

I guess you didn't read my post about the store being open for 5 hours on a Sunday.

This part was a joke, right? Not only did I quote this section of the post I also commented on it in my post...maybe you should read my post?

I've cross-checked your math and have found that there are exactly five others - to my surprise, even on leap years!

Any sort of July release will seem like an eternity, I agree - and the idea of coming out on the holiday weekend is odd - but Sprint is odd, so, I dunno.

I am however ready to predict in no uncertain terms that it will come out on day whose name ends with a y.

Did you get your EVO on launch day? Well, Sprint has major computer issues due to ALL the activations. Being open for 5 hours would piss a lot of people off if their computers are slowed down to a crawl again and they have to turn people away. One customer was having to wait at least 20 minutes just to get the phone activated. So 5 hours on a Sunday would be pure genius of Sprint. I can throw a rock and I promise you I will not hit a person with an HTC EVO 4G. But if I threw another rock I'm more than likely for the rock to land next to a person with an iPhone. I'm willing to bet more people know about the release date of the iPhone 5 than the EVO 3D. The HTC EVO 4G is a popular phone, however if we stood in a mall and asked people about the EVO 3D, I'm willing to bet you $10,000 that 70% of the people wouldn't know anything about the HTC EVO 3D.

I wouldn't mind a June 24th release, afterall that would make for a great birthday present. ;) It seems more and more people have the assumption that Sprint is starting to think like the "geeks" on this board and will release on the 3rD (June or July). Somehow I think that's a stretch that Sprint is as clever as majority of the people on this board and they could release it on a day that makes no sense to anyone.

I very highly doubt that's the reason. Really the only people anxiously waiting for it are geeks like us. Corporations don't care about geeks like us. We don't hold any weight. It's the masses they want to appeal to. You ask any normal person about the evo 3d and I'm sure you'll get a lot of "what is that". There's something else going on. maybe they don't want to advertise it since they just released the Nexus S.

I don't know why people on message boards always say this. It's totally wrong. Maybe 5 years ago they didn't care about geeks like us, but today they absolutely do.

If they didn't care about geeks like us, they wouldn't be holding preorders at Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Sprint, that only geeks like us know about. The preorders they are holding are all "secret" preorders that are only for geeks like us. So they obviously do care about us.

I'm pretty sure we can scratch a july 3rd release. not only is sunday a short day for the stores, but those same stores won't even be open on the 4th and 3rd party retail locations will either be closed on the 4th or have very short hours. No way Sprint plans that poorly.

....I've never stated I had an EVO 4G. In fact, right below my username it shows I have/had a Droid Incredible and Droid 1. Your statistical analysis is daunting. I won't question you again.

I am going to have lean toward an early June release simply because many people will be traveling beginning at the end or middle of June. School gets out mid June and people want a vacation. Plus a new phone would be great to travel with. I hope its not after June 24th because I am one of those who will be traveling. I need it to come out before the 24th. lol.

There is no way this phone will be released on July 3rd. Come on people, think about it. If they were going to release a phone during a 3 day weekend, it would be at the BEGINNING of that weekend. So it would be the Friday, not the Sunday.

It would be incredibly stupid to release it on a summer holiday weekend anyway. People are spending their money on vacations, barbecues, fireworks, etc. Nobody will want to buy an expensive phone, and especially not on that Sunday.

that's false. The casuals outnumber geeks probably 100-1. geeks will never be the main target audience in any business. I'm a huge boxing fan an unfortunately we get f'ed all time with the fights we want to see being shut down for fights "the public will pay to see" hence pacquiao vs mosley. No need to get bother by sheer truth. Corporation want to sell and appease the masses. they don't care about the handful of people chatting on a message board.

I have a friend who just got the EVO 4G a few months ago. I was like yeah, I'm about to get that EVO 3D. It should drop in June. He was like you are getting a what? Yes, only geeks know about this phone. The masses DO NOT know about the release of the EVO 3D. My buddy told me he had saw his dad with the EVO and he saw my phone therefore he wanted to get one. Besides, he is an iPhone hater like me. I think people are making a big deal out of nothing. The phone will release around 3 June.

Yes every single one of us on these forums are geeks but don't underestimate the power of word of mouth. Like I said in a previous post I was on a business flight last week and as I took my seat next to this lady who appeared to be in her 50's or so looked at my phone and immediatley recognized my evo. She proceeded to tell me that she had an evo as well and that she couldn't wait to get the evo 3d. This lady is no geek, we proceeded to have a long conversation on the flight in regards to the things that can be done with an evo. She was totally amazed at what additional things she could do with her phone, she knew nothing of rooting, custom roms, custom themes....etc. She was very interested in what I was talking about but didn't really want to invest the time in learning how to do any of it. So by all means don't assume that only geeks are going crazy for this phone. You will be surprised

Sprint phones are released on Sunday's.
Just google it and you will see how many were released.

Like someone else said there have been many phones that were released on other days of the week but sunday seems to be the main day of choice for sprint.

I've cross-checked your math and have found that there are exactly five others - to my surprise, even on leap years!

This was just funny as hell!!! LMAO

Sprint had issues on that day but they had no way to determine how well the phone was gonna sell. Its hard to prepare for something that has never happened. The evo 4g launch was definitely a learning experience for sprint and I am sure that they will be fully prepared for whatever rush there may be for the evo3d. In reference to your last statement who knows what that percentage could be and I don't think it even matters. The only thing that matters right now is that the evo probably has one of the strongest set of followers amongst its users next to the iphone. I don't know how many evos sprint have sold but obviously its their best selling phone. How many of those evo users do you think know about the evo3d? Its probably more than you think, and how many non evo users do you think they will tell? Probably more than you think. Word of mouth is a powerfull thing. Do you know how many evos I have sold just because I had an evo? You would swear I was a sprint employee.

I'm going to throw out a 1st of July release date again, mostly because it gives Sprint and third party retailers time to hype up the phone during 4th of July Sales. It's on a Friday and it's on weekend when many "casuals" will be up and about. 5 hours on Sunday doesn't sound like enough time. I know many people want this phone out in early June but it's looking less and less likely.

Yup. Just to add onto this, for those that didn't experience the EVO launch issues, I was the 1st person at the Best Buy I pre-ordered from. It took them 1.5 hours, just to get my upgrade taken care of and by the time I was done, there were 20 more people waiting behind me.

And I really agree with how strong word-of-mouth is, when it comes to marketing, but at the same time, I wouldn't put money on a lot of people knowing about the EVO 3D. I can easily see people finding out a few weeks after the EVO 3D gets released and rushing over to Sprint or any other 3rd party reseller to upgrade. I'd be willing to predict Sprint will get more sales after launch, rather than on the actual day. As strong a following as the EVO has attained over the past year, I don't really believe it's to the point that people will be beating down the door to upgrade. I think what made the original EVO so successful, at least a big part of it, was the fact that there were NO other phones released through Sprint that came anywhere near the EVO 3D. The jump from the HTC Hero to the EVO was night and day. I can honestly say, when the Hero was released, it gave me NO reason to think it was worth upgrading (despite it being the first Android phone on Sprint).

You are flat out wrong. Please tell me how the "casuals" even know about this preorder?

If you are claiming that the casuals outnumber the geeks 100-1 on these secret preorders, I am forced to ask you to cite some evidence to prove it. I'm calling BS on that claim.

This preorder is not advertised, and you can only get it if you go to a store and ask for it in person. They won't tell you about it, you have to already know about it.

If you are calling those people "casuals" then I guess everyone is a casual, or less than a casual.

So my little WAG has stirred the pot and that's all it is a WAG.
It's meant to show that on any given day anything can happen. Or is the term on any given Sunday?
Just because the sun came up yesterday at 7 am doesn't mean it will come up at the same time every day.

1. I would love for this phone to come out on June 3rd, that would mean i would get it next two weeks sometime as i pre-ordered too.
2. Sometime what we perceive as stupid actually is an orchestrated event designed to produce media exposure, i.e. Jersey shore (Never watched it but i know all about it).
3. By getting the geeks to pre-order it puts the E3D in hands of people that a lot of non geeks depend on to guide them. They see this new gadget you rave about, then they see it's possibly in short order because of a stupid Sunday release and it makes them want it even more because of the perception.

Again just my 2 cents take it with a grain of salt....

This is not entirely true. I found out about the Evo 3D from a Sprint store. After entering, a sales associate approached me. I told them I had a DX, and showed him incase he wasn't familiar with it. Then said I was kinda looking for an Evo, but didn't want something from last year and if they had anything coming soon. He then told me about the Evo 3D, but that it's only been officially released. No official price, release date, and that they were not even taking pre-orders, yet. I checked out the plans and thanked him for his time and left. Then started hitting Google for the Evo 3D.

While not overt advertising, I guess some sales associates know how to select who to tell about certain upcoming devices.

OK - please - let's all remember that 86% of all statistics are made up.

Also - anyone seeing an ad in the sports thing and liking ESPN 3D and the like already can easily go, Hmmm, I wonder if I can google for Evo 3D? -- and quickly blog info on pre-ordering.

Let's stick to release info, rumors and guesses and not get bogged down in semantics or statistics.

Well I still think this phone will be released sometime in June, July makes no sense what so ever. Verizons droidx2 is gonna be available this month which will leave sprint as the only carrier without a dual core phone on the market. I simply just don't see the evo 3d getting released any later than June. My heart is telling me June 3rD but my mind is saying June 17th.

I have to laugh, because I did totally make that 20 minute wait thing up on launch day. I had to wait about 45 minutes to an hour but the computers were working just fine. So you are telling me you had to wait 1.5 hours for Sprint to upgrade your phone due to their computer system slowing to a crawl? Wow, that is allegiance! Everyone knows history always repeats itself. Don't think Apple or AT&T has mastered the pre-ordering fiasco yet so I know Sprint can't. My buddies tell me they can't login to order the iPhone or they can't get through on the phone line. Its hilarious! Let me edit this. I waited in the store about 45 minutes and I was number 7 in line. My phone was activated and I was out in about 20 minutes. And the computers were working just fine.

Try getting your phone activated at a Best Buy on Black Friday at 5am in the morning. I did that in 2009 and it took them 3 hours.

Yes, they will tell you all about the device. Sprint has already officially announced the device and gave a huge demonstration of it at CTIA, and they had it at Google IO too.

But this secret preorder is another story. That sales associate apparently did not tell you that you could preorder the device. That is what I'm talking about. If they didn't care about us geeks, then they wouldn't have a preorder that specifically targets us geeks.

To stay on topic- my guess is sometime in June. There is no way it will be on July 4th weekend. Hopefully early in June, but it depends on how stable the software is.
