Release date is July 31st

Either that, or maybe that particular store will be delayed in getting it, but not other stores?

Well it was the flagship store on 23rd Street in Manhattan, so I'd imagine that if any stores were not getting them, that store would not be one of them.

As I was looking at this, I noticed something odd.

Why does that lens say zoom??? this camera cannot have an actual zoom in it does it? I'm not talking digital zoom as it has been established that digital zoom must be labeled as such.

don't derail this thread, but I am just curious.

And three of my local stores say the 31st and no report of a delay.

Check out shawheim's closed thread. He made a video showing the zoom function, even DURING video recording! Most of the high-end Android phones (if not all) have zoom on the camera. None of them, to my knowledge, allow zoom in and out during video recording, so that was a nice bonus to see for sure!

As for the delays, I'm really hoping that was just misinformation from the one store.

Yea I seen that, but I have seen a few other phone camera's zoom with digital zoom. My question is a digital zoom and lens zoom and two different beasts all together. And now I am curious if this phone has an actual lens zoom. This would not be the first time for a cell phone, but it would be the first time for a mainstream phone.

Pretty sure it's this one:

From google searching, that store is located between 22nd and 23rd. I'm not from NY, so not sure which one it is really.

I googled in the same area and called and the person said that the phone is set for Jul31st in the system and they no nothing about a delayed release date.

Ok someone else call, and lets see if they go crazy :-)

Ohhh...that's a good point. I didn't think about the digital vs. lens zoom. I see what you were saying now.

Nontheless, getting back on topic, the 28th is only a few days away! The weekend couldn't come any sooner! I'm really hype about this upgrade and much more than I originally thought I'd be.

Regarding the video posted where it showed zooming in and out during recording. Was this done via touchscreen or using volume rockers etc.?

But hes saying it says zoom on the outside by the rim of the camera lens cover. Our EVO only says 8 MP. Usually the only time they say zoom on the outside like that is with optical zoom.

If you look at my post a couple up, he clarified and I realized what he was saying after the fact.

Yes, that's the one. I just checked at the other store near my job and they didn't know anything about a delay. So, umm, nevermind, sorry?? (he said, hopefully)

Just called three stores around Houston and none of them have heard of a delay. Two of them wouldn't tell me if they have the phones yet, and the last one said that they received an invoice with a date of 29th. Also asked each when the display will be up for trying and they all three said the 21st.

If I get bored later I might try calling a few more. And these were actual sprint corp stores and not resellers.

The 21st, as in they have display models that you can check out already?

sorry about that 31st haha. It has already been a long week for me.

Hahaha...All good. Got me a little jumpy there for a second. I was about to head over to the corporate store a few blocks away from my work!...LOL.

Nontheless, I really don't need to see it anymore, but would've loved to try it out in person before I end up buying it. I'm just hoping I don't end up messing up by waiting on Best Buy, since there's been no definitive answer that they'll have the phone in stock.

Well good news is that my flight to Vegas leaves late on Sunday so I have time to buy the Photon. Bad news is I want it from Radio Shack since I have $50 gift card from pre ordering the Evo 3d. I called and the guy was very aloof. He said they should have them for sale on Sunday but had no idea when they were coming in...so he really had no idea if they were going to be for sale Sunday. Why is Sprint dropping the ball on this one so hard?

i could be wrong, but didn't Sprint also do this with the EVO last year. Waited until the last minute to advertise it and pre-order it etc. Or was that another phone and I have my signals crossed. lol

I wish you were right, TS, but EVO 4G pre-order started a month out prior to the release. Pretty sure it was May 9 (or around there). And the Epic even had a pre-order going a month prior to the release.

The advertising was the only thing that was somewhat scarce until after release, when it came to national TV ads.

If I don't end up doing the early order thing on the 28th, then I'll likely be checking Best Buy online at 9pm PST, to see if the Photon gets listed on there for order. If not, then I'll go to the store at opening (there are 3 Best Buy locations within a 7 mile radius from my house, so that's the good part, in case there are some that have it and some that don't).

sorry that everybody is have a tough week, on the contrary my week has been pretty good........so far :D it is only tuesday.

I don't remember seeing any droid 3 reviews before release only after, I wasn't really paying attention though because I don't have verizon. I wouldn't mind seeing some reviews though. I'll probably be picking it up unless they totally trash the phone. It couldn't be any worse than the touch pro2 that I have now. :)
