Charge is not out for sale just yet. Today was supposed to be the delayed launch day but it's postponed again. It's only shortcoming is price. Slow benchmark is only due to RFS which can be fixed by rooting but real world usage feels no different than Tbolt. Can't complain on storage side too when it has 512mb ROM + 2Gb internal for apps + 32Gb micro SD for data/apps. But it crushes Tbolt on battery life, screen and camera. I hope Revolution beats it with pretty much everything except screen though. I won't touch Incredible 2. It's just slight upgrade from the original one with still mediocre camera, call quality.

Agreed. The price is insane. 300 on contract for a single core phone that is no faster than any other phone that cost 50 less. I for one just don't like the look of the charge. I find it exceptionally ugly, it in an odd way reminded me of a blackberry.

To be honest, I would have bought an Incredible 2 if it had LTE. I played with it in store for a while and it was exceptionally smooth and just a nice phone. LTE is going online in October in my area so a LTE phone is the better choice.

If the Rev comes out and sucks... Tbolt... Pray for the REV to be a good solid phone.

RFS? Really? I hope real world usage is smooth for stock users as well. After the Fascinate, I would think Samsung/Verizon would have learned a thing or two about selling laggy phones. If the dev's have provided users willing to root with software solutions to their laggy phones, Samsung also needs to provide this to the non-root users. I realize that some carrier junk is part of the deal, and if you're not willing to root, you're stuck. But your phone should still run smooth with everything stock for a long time. Even though it's a Hummingbird from last year, those of us who mod our fascinates (and other galaxy S variants) know that the hummingbird is easily capable of some excellent, stable, and consistent performance. And with EB01 and EC01 (and those that have the ED01 stock update) radios the GPS is much improved for most people. It always worked decent enough for me, but from EB01 on my GPS has just been stellar. I hit the button on my notification screen to turn on the GPS signal. I open up google nav. I tell it where I want to go. It finds my location and starts giving me directions in seconds. Sometimes it's instant. I've never had a Garmin that could do that ...

File system inadequacies are inexcusable. This phone had better run smoothly for folks. Especially for two freaking hundred and ninety-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents.

I understand this might not be the best place to ask but I will anyway. So I am really itching to get my hands on A Verizon LTE phone. Preferably a dual core variety. SGS2 would be #1 on the list, the LG 2x finally Bionic/Targa. So, I am wondering if anybody here is familiar with Costco. It is my understanding that they have a 90 day return policy on cell phones. For the contract purpose, you only have 14 days to get out of the contract but 90 days to swap the phone. So I am looking at Costco's website and currently they do not offer the Thunderbolt. I have heard rumors that they will carry the Charge, not sure about the Revolution. Historically, does anybody know if Costco doesn't typically carry top line phones? I am not sure why they do not carry the Thunderbolt (Perhaps Best Buy has some kind of exclusive?). My worry would be I buy the Charge (intending on utilizing the fabulous return policy) and pick up a dual core phone some 90 days later but Costco not carrying a dual-core. If that were the case, could I return the equipment for money back then go purchase a dual-core phone from VZW or BBY or anybody else?

Costco sometimes goes out of stock for some phones. It comes in and out frequently, so you need to check it often. Also local stores might have different phones available than what online shows. Don't know why they don't have Tbolt though.
Yes, you can return the phone in 90 days under the same contract and they prefer you swap the phone with other one on their stock than going back to your old phone with money back. But I'm not sure if you can just return it with money back and go to different store to upgrade your phone under the same contract.

Cool, so you think I would be pretty safe to pick up a Rev if they carry it with the ability to return it 90 days or sooner for a dual-core?

Yes, assuming they will have dual core phones for sale in the near future.

Man, this almost seems to go to be true. I think I will wait until at least June 1st, that will give me until September 1st or there abouts to return it. Couple the return policy with the free insurance Costco provides, seems like a no-brainer. I am a little worried that they for some unknown reason will not carry the highest end phones though. I looked at the other carriers and they sell the top line phones (Axtrix for AT&T, G2x for T-mo).

I'm honestly not expecting the SGSII until September. I hope it comes out sooner, obviously because that's the phone I want. I would advise you to wait for the SGS2, unless you have another line on your account that will come up for upgrade sooner. One of the reasons I have three lines is so I can upgrade phones more often. :D Then, the Revolution could be a good stopgap for you until a dual core comes out. I'm still expecting the Bionic before September, but who knows with the delays. Costco is on and off on the phones they carry, and I know that sometimes Berizon does do exclusives with Best Buy for a limited amount of time.

I worry about getting the phone you want with Costco, too. 90 days is a wonderful return policy, but there's no guarantee that Costco will get the phone you want within that time, even if it's a phone available from Berizon directly or other Berizon resellers.

Do we know what is in the pipeline for vzw after this initial wave of lte devices? We all have abviously heard about the Targa/Bionic. Do you all think LG/Samsung will put out a VZW dual-core this summer? Would HTC launch a dual-core snapdragon inside of 6 months of the thunderbolt? One of the biggest reasons for wanting to get a phone soon is the unlimited 4g that I suspect will go away this summer. If I get a contract with a 4g plan ibshould be good if I exchange the device for another 4g device within the return policy. I currently have a Dinc, and am pretty happy with it.

I believe you're correct about that. I'm pretty sure if you get on a contract now that contract is good for two years regardless of whether the store you buy your phone from has a longer exchange policy or not. Even if you exchange your phone at Costco after 85 days, I'm pretty sure the contract you sign up for now with current 4G plans will stay with you. I've never seen Berizon do anything different in similar cases I've seen over the years. I'm torn. I want to want the LG Revolution, but it's not going to be a very noticeable upgrade over my Fascinate. It will have HDMI out, which I want, but the camera is not likely better, and I won't be getting 4G in my area for at least a year and a half, possibly longer. It's a lot heftier device than my Fascinate, too. That's why I think I can wait just a bit longer for the SGS2. I might feel different if I had the D'Inc though. It was wonderful when it came out, and still a solid phone, but it is getting a bit long in the tooth, and there are definitely handsets out there with better battery life than the Thunderbolt. The Inc 2, Revolution, SGS2, and Charge will likely all get better battery life than the Thunderbolt, and the TB is more bulky and heavy than any of those devices as well, and it lacks HDMI output. That's the one thing keeping me from considering the Inc 2, honestly. I love its form factor and build quality, and the fact that it' DOESN'T have 4G. I'm GLAD it's not 4G. I just wish it had MHL (micro USB to HDMI capability) that other newer HTC devices are getting. I won't buy another phone that doesn't have video out. I will get an iPhone before I buy an Android without some kind of video output.

Do I really NEED video output on a cellphone? Of course not. But if my smartphone could play movies or games on a TV, or if I could hook up little presentations to clients' TVs in their home, I guaranfreakintee that I would use it all the time. The components in today's phones are certainly up to the task hardware wise.

This is my best guestimate on the VZW pipeline.

1. Droid Charge : imminent in matter of a few days.
2. Revolution: probably by end of this month.
3. Droid X2: soon after Revolution around late May or early June.
4. Droid 3: shortly after DX2. has dual core, 4" screen and of course keyboard.
5. Bionic, SGSII: they are somewhat up in the air. it could be anywhere from late June to September.

DX2, D3 are basically dual core versions of DX, D2. And it's kind of bummer to me that there is no LG dual core in sight for VZW.

You don't see a 2x varient in the pipe? Do you all think there could be support issues with the tegra 2 and LTE? It kind of makes sense. Bionic basically dead, Xoom 4g upgrade delayed (initially they said it would come in May, now supposedly it will come when the new Bionic releases) and the fact that no other manufactures have plans for a tegra 2 LTE devce. All of that would leave me to believe that there might be compadibility issues between lte and tegra 2.

I am very partial to KB phones as I do a lot of texting and also edit text files that I keep on the phone. I had a TB and gave it back due to battery and bloatware issues, plus I kept backspacing all the time. I have kinda been waiting for the Droid 3, but it seems very iffy about 4G LTE on that phone. Still, I'd be interested in anyone's impression of where it fits in this discussion. I like LG and need 4G, but I also want a quality KB with real Qwerty -- not the fake fn-key for numbers variety. If I wait for the D3 what am I giving up in quality, etc., just to have a keyboard?

If you wait for D3 for its keyboard, you basically give up 4G LTE and stock android UI. But it's still very decent android phone with keyboard, 4" screen, dual core processor, global radio, etc. And it it will be thinner than D2.

Pairing LTE radio with dual core like Tegra2 seems to be very challenging technically than initially thought. It will come later this year eventually and we will see more next year I think.

By next year wont we be talking about tegra 3?

Last time I heard, quad core tegra3 will be sampling this summer and going into tablet by the end of this year. There was rumor that Targa has Tegra3 before Motorola delayed Bionic. Now that Targa became new Bionic, I doubt it will have tegra3 in it along with LTE radio. But who knows, maybe Moto would throw out tegra3 superphone by the end of year without LTE.

Yeah, well that was my point. Doesn't look like we will see a tegra 2 lte phone. By the time they figure it out tegra 3 will be the standard.

Here is the latest rumor. Pegged for May 12th. We shall see.

Agreed that an LTE Tegra 2 is looking very doubtful. I was considering the Xperia Play, but low device storage and probably no Netflix killed it for me. The Revolution seems the best bet, but there will probably be some very good dual core choices late summer, early fall.

I may wait, but then again, may stick with my Incredible, since I have wifi tether working great on all of my portable devices and would need root to get wifi tether back.

Maybe you should look at Costco. 90 return policy for the phone. I think I am going to go down that road but I think I am going to wait until early june to buy the revolution, hoping a dual-core lte device makes it in the 90 day window.

But there will be another wait for Tegra3 plus LTE in phone after they figure out Tegra2 plus LTE.

Perhaps, but hopefully by this time next year they are only shipping lte devices. I would guess we are seeing the last batch of 3g smart phones. Although I haven't heard any rumored 4g Blackberry or WinMo devices (I don't think the Trophy is 4g?).

So, I would highly doubt they will release a tegra 3 device that isn't LTE.

It might be the standard for other carriers, but that means "some time next year" for Berizon. They need time to put all their junk and promotional crap on it, you know.

Looks like Revolution launch is finally in sight if this is to be believed. Interesting that Droid X2 will be released on the same day.

Verizon Plans For A Droid X2, LG Revolution and HTC Trophy Simultaneous Launch

People appear to be buying the Charge in some places already, at least I've seen reports of them being available in Best Buy stores. Could be false of course.

Activated Samsung Droid Charge With 32GB Card Available At Best Buy Already?

Now if the Revolution really hits next week, we'll finally get the chance to compare LG's latest screen tech against Samsung's SuperAMOLED plus. I'm not expecting the LG to be better, but I'm hoping it's at least as good or better than the excellent screen on the Thunderbolt.

Yes, this could be the case, however the x2 is not LTE so the Rev is considered the premiere phone. While the x2 proposed specs are nice, I don't like Motorola android phones. They are locked down and I just don't like the buttons at the bottom, I think they look cheap.

I would like to see Verizon do an android blitz and add a bunch of devices quickly.

Now for the shame part of the day... If the trophy had a larger screen... I might consider it... *hangs head in shame*

The WP7 phones all get great reviews...

Pray for the 12th!!!
