Root Removal Of Bloatware

Just a thread for hopefully people can come here to discuss..has anyone notice there are double icons of "messages" "phone" and "contacts" there already on the bottom dock..

Hey, if you have already rooted could you do a system pull for me and also pull the boot.img? If so i can start porting some of my mods for the Revolution over.

I work at MetroPCS, and just got one in stock. Anything I can do to help and get this rooted?

If you can check about ability to get into a) fastboot and b) recovery and let me know where it gets you that would be awesome!

How to:
Fastboot
1) Power off
2) Press and hold both volume up and volume down
3) While holding those press and hold the power button
4) Hold both thru the LG splash screen

Recovery
1) Power off
2) Press and hold volume down
3) While holding that, press and hold the power button
4) Hold both thru the LG splash screen

Let me ask, what is the purpose of fast boot, and why would you try to get into it? I have an LM Optimus M, and it's not a good thing if we get into fast boot.

Unfortunately it may be the only way to obtain root. Looking at the Revo that has had root blocked on the latest update, and the TMo LG G2x had root blocked when it received gingerbread, it looks like LG has found a way to block root. With access to fastboot we can try to port clockwork recovery from the Revo and push it using fastboot (you do not have to have root to push this way). If we can push a working cwm then root can be pushed from cwm.

I'm looking for a list of the Metro PCS bloatware & apk file names that can be removed from the LG Esteem after root. Are they the same apk file names as found on the LG Optimus M?

Obviously you don't wanna freeze anything you plan on using, i.e. Books etc. Thinking about it I think I'm getting SLIGHTLY better battery performance after doing this. Battery life is still somewhat ridiculous but still better. I've been playing with the phone downloading apps, browsing the web (WiFi and 4G) and other things and haven't had any problems or FCs. Anyway I hope this helps some. :D

thanks for the list, i delete alot of stuff off mines...lol

I'm relatively new to the Droid and I have read in other forums that deleting some apps can mess up your phone. My Ascend wouldn't let me delete any pre-loaded apps. My Esteem does. Am I safe to delete everything on that list?

Just an update: My phone just restarted while I was changing the wallpaper and now it gets stuck at the metro screen and shuts off (or just the screen) and I'm stuck here. Now before I say wether or not this was due to freezing these apps or not I think its safer to assume it was. So just be careful while freezing/deleting. I'll report back once and if I have isolated the problem.

Hey just wanted to let you guys know I've had an issue arise in mine that has forced me to do a factory restore TWICE. However it doesn't seem to be linked to the freezing of apps.
From stock version I rooted, did a manual update to FW ..ZVB then had to reroot. After this I froze a bunch of apps using TBP, changed the system font. Restarted several times and everything was fine.
Then something happened while changing wallpapers where it restarted by itself and once it booted it semi-froze on the lock screen where I could see and receive texts and notifications but touch screen was unresponsive (really weird). Restored to factory settings and everything was back the way it was including all the apps, EXCEPT the font and Superuser.
So this time I left it as is and while recharging one morning I took the phone off the charger and the same thing happened again. Had to do another restore and this time I manually set everything I could back to stock. The exception being Superuser.
Anyway like I said, it seems this has nothing to do freezing the apps mentioned above and you could probably still use this list. Hope this helps some.

Any chance someone could put together the files and a script of the commonly removed bloatware from MetroPCS and a script that would put all the files back where they originally would be?

A few items now that I have removed I have tried downloading again from the MetroApps store and when I try to launch them I get force closes each and every time.

I'm thinking this may be useful to more than myself :-)

Items I've removed that I know for sure I want back:

MetroMail
Metro IM Client (not sure the actual name of it)
Rhapsody
EasyWifi
Loopt

This may not be everything - I only removed those items that I was 100% sure was bloated in by Metro... I DON'T WANT THAT STINKING XTRAs APP BACK!

Good Idea, I agree. I think some things I removed may be causing my phone to function differently. I too DON'T WANT THAT STINKING XTRA APP BACK! That has to be the worst bloat ever!

Well, Easy Wi-Fi is not bloatware -- it's a very useful app, but you can remove it if you want. ;)

Oh, wait, you want it back so maybe you realize it wasn't bloatware...

I will have it done by tonight.

the batch file will be able to push stock metro apps back to the system apps folder on rooted AND un rooted phones.

For some reason titanium back up does not backup / restore apps correctly under CERTAIN conditions.

It happened to me, i tried to restore my apps and it would freeze on the restore process.

This happened because i was rooting, unrooting and doing hard resets on my phone during testing.

No don't take it that way. i've often said my case is one of smart phone/dumb owner. I even managed to delete one that i had backed up, removed backup accidentally and hit delete when trying to reinstall backup. I was just hoping someone knew of a way to recover them that i didn't. Sorry if i :(offended ne1.
