Help remove '1 message' notification form lock screen??

I am using SMS Handcent which is great. I have removed sms notifications in the phones default messaging but I still get the message notification on the lock screen, it doesn't go when I open the message in handscent, only in the default inbox. Help!

Could it be the voicemail one by any chance? I am having problems with the voicemail notification.

no because as soon as I read a message in the phones original inbox, the notification vanishes.

For a while I was seeing -1 as the number of messages on the lock screen. The phone seems to adjust this number (or a component of it) from changes it is informed about rather than directly counting messages. I think I got the negative number from voicemail twice reporting the deletion of a single message after first not reporting that I had listened to the message. Whatever, it does not seem to be a particular reliable number.

The number doesn't appear to change unless I get more than 1 message at a time. It always stays on 1 so I've learnt to ignore it, and just look for the handcent icon on the notification bar instead. Obviously I can clear the '1 new message' by going into 'messaging' so it's not the end of the world

Indeed, no more notification! You can use whatever SMS app you want now without this annoyance.
