Remove Battery Cover with Case

Selb7

Newbie
I was wondering if it is ok if I remove the Extended battery cover and just put a case that I have over it? I am not sure if this messes with the battery or anything like that. I just feel like cases fit better when the battery cover for the extended battery is removed.

Some people do this, but I don't think it's necessarily advisable. Doing so leaves the inside of the phone exposed if any liquids, dust, etc. get in under the case. It may not end up causing any issues, but it seems like it's risky to me.

how so? the case takes the place of the phone back.

The back snaps into the phone very tightly and leaves essentially no place for anything to get inside. Most cases have at least a few minor gaps where moisture, dust, etc. could get back there and it'd be trapped. Like I said, this may not cause any issues, I would just rather keep the back on. I also use my phone in the rain and what not, so perhaps I have more to worry about than others when it comes to foreign substances getting into the back of my phone.

As a Red Sox fan, it pains me to say this, but I agree with the Yankee fan.

The stock back cover is going to provide a much better seal than most cases will. Keeping it off could easily allow junk inside.

When you pull cases off phones, you frequently will find crud in the corners or along the surfaces. When you pull the back off the phone, do you find any crud inside? Nope.

It's not a guarantee of a problem, of course - I'm sure in most cases, it works just fine. Just be aware that you are increasing the likelihood for problems.

i hear ya, and this was my initial reaction the first time i heard this too. however over galaxynexusforum.com there's a thread on this same topic and plenty of folks posted they've done this for years with not ill affects.

Well, like scratched screens... absence if evidence is not evidence of absence.

So... just making sure the risks are recognized. I've been in IT for a long time - there is aways a risk with exposing the internals of electronics.
