Thats going to be a matter of opinion of course! ;) I like the old fashioned way where you straight up use the SBF files with RDL and do it yourself. Lots of people have been using ones that you can download from the market that can do it in one shot.

Once you've rooted, can you still download new software releases? I've been thinking about rooting, same as the OP, so I can remove motonav. But when 2.2 is released will I be able to update from the phone, or will it cause problems?

I opted to use Universal Androot with this in mind, because apart from being a ridiculously simple method it can also "unroot" the phone using the same single click method used to root it in the first place, should the need arise.

I've seen some people just puting some root files to their phone and then holding camera buton and power button, and rooting the phone then.Real simple.

I'm not very familiar with SBF and RDL files.(are there any instructions/steps to root phone like that on the forum?)

I want not to screw up something and I need a good and easy way to root.

You can still update it to 2.2 when it comes out (you qilln eed to unroot it but that is only one click away).

I've used the "Universal Androot" app to root, but I still cannot delete motonav!

In Settings -> Apps -> Manage Apps I have "Moto Car Home" and "Motonav" listed, but no uninstall option.

edit...nevermind just me being stupid! Thanks to everyone on this page for the info!

Yeah,I need some root that is easy to unroot, too ( I 'm planing to update my phone to 2.2,too).
What/which is recommented?

So,which way should I do it?:

-Unisversal Androot / is this way of root good, too or is there any diffirence?
or
-Using SBF and RDL files /will I still be able to unroot my phone if I root it this way?

I need an easy way to root,
and then be able to unroot it,if I would need to do that.

If you don't know much about this kind of stuff use the androot way it will be easier. To unroot all you need to do is press a button with androot, with the SBF way you just need to flash the original SBF file and thats it. If you have never done it though it can be tough to do sometimes.

But just to make surte, both ways of rooting are good, there isn't any diffirence with phone rooted with androot and the phone rooted the other way, right?

Yeah,I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but I would like to learn to do that, too, that's why I'm here.

Yeah,I get that, but Is there any diffirence between phone rooted with androot or the phone rooted using those SBF and RDL files??

Ok,then. Where can I find the Androot. I couldn't find it on market. Can I just google it? Do I have to install Androot from ".apk" file?

Hey,I have just installed the Universal Androot and rooted my phone. I also noticed that I got some "Superuser Permissions" installed, too. Can someone tell me,what that is?

It is the app that manages application permissions. When you open an app that requires root access the SuperUser app should pop up and ask you if you want to grant those permissions. There should also be a tick there that allows to remember the permissions in the future for that specific app.

I rooted my Milestone in 15 seconds by downloading and running Universal Androot from the Marketplace. :D Haven't seen any disadvantages of doing it since then.

You can then remove any pre-installed app in a couple of easy steps. For example, here are the step by step instructions to removing Motonav trial (which takes up lots of space btw).

You can also remove any application if you know the apk name and the package name.
For example, to remove the QuickOffice trial:
use QuickOffice.apk in step 5, and com.qo.android.moto in step 9.

Here is a good list of apk and package names.

Hope that helps.

I'm now rooted and triyng to remove motonav, and I just don't know how exatcly I must type in command in terminal emulator.Has anyone used terminal emulator before??
