Root Remove Rom Manager

Hi,

I've now successfully flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2 with the help of this forum (thanks).

I am concerned to notice though, that it comes with Rom Manager installed - even though the rom is specifically for the Ace and even though Rom Manager has been known to brick Aces!

Now I am worried I will accidentally click on and run Rom Manager and brick my phone!

How can I uninstall it so that there's no risk of this?

Thanks.

Rom manager will only possibly brick if you attempt to change fonts, boot up screen etc through app rather than using manually root explorer. If your cautious about it. No harm in un installing.

Thank you for your answer.

Could you instruct me on how to uninstall it?

I realise it will have to be done through Titanium Backup as it is a system app, but I read somewhere that even this doesn't completely uninstall it?

Sorry if I sound a bit paranoid about it, but I'm not a techie by any means, and I worry that if I mess it up I'll end up bricking my phone - in fact I'm surprised I've been able to do as much as I have: rooting, formatting, partitioning, flashing! - but that's been due to reading, reading, then reading some more before I even attempt anything, and also with the great advice of users of this forum. (Of course, all this will be second nature to a lot of you, but I feel like it's been a massive acheivement for me! :proud:

So, if possible, I'd rather totally remove the app (if anyone can advise how), then there'll be no mishaps! :)

I'm not familiar at all with the ace but you can't go into setting, application? If not look up easy un installer from the market.

Rom manager should not be a system app. If it is then tb is your only way to un install. Just go into tb, backup/restore tab. Find rom manager click it and hit un install. Make a backup of it before you do in case it makes your rom unstable.

If you choose to remove just remember to make a backup first, and yes it completely un installs all not just parts where you've heard.

Its not a system app then it can be easily removed from settings>manage applications, but if its a system app then you can either use TB to remove it or via Root Explorer(or similar apps).
I know TB can be a bit unreliable in removing system apps(personal experience), but its fairly easy through root explorer also.
Open the root explorer, navigate to directory system/app, click on r/w button to make the system in read-write mode, then long press the rom manager app and click on delete, reboot. Done!

I myself have never had problems un installing system apps via tb, maybe it could be a certain phone that it's being used on

I don't know if its in a particular phone or not, but everytime i try to remove system apps through TB it shows successfull, but looking in the /system/app its still there. Now i use root explorer only, its easy and guarantees success. :D

Thank you - I have now managed to uninstall Rom Manager, and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems.

I have another question:

I formatted and partitioned my SD card prior to flashing, and used Link2SD to solve my memory problem. Do I need to format and partition again now I've flashed CyanogenMod, or will just downloading Link2SD again be enough?

Many thanks.

The partition is not affected by rom flashing, it would still be there, so just setup link2sd on the phone and link the files to the ext partition.
