Root Remove stock android keyboard

Modman

Android Enthusiast
The ultimate customization guide lists the android keyboard as bloat.

I have installed slide and have the paid version.

I haved deleted swype.apk and swype.odex from /System/app.

I can't seem to find Android keyboard in /cust/app/metropcs or /System /app.

Is it removable? is it safe to remove? How much space can I claim back by removing it. What directory is it in?

Do I have to make slide a system app or not since it is installed on the phone first?

Help appreciated. Metro Froyo 2.2 rooted

If you have another keyboard set as default simply use titanium backup and remove "android keyboard" its only a few KB.

It didn't change to a user app in titanium backup. it changed to android.twxt instead of android keyboard. it still won't remove.

Then tried to chhange skyfire to a system app in titanium it changed.
But it was installed on my sdcard and now it won't work at all and allhe it's options are greyed out. Please help!! thank goodness didn't install metroweb yet.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Space on my phone keeps running out.

I paid for the premium skyfire.

again i tried to turn android keyboard into a userapp. instead it titanium locked up and it appeared as android.twxt under application with everything greyed out. Skyfire crashed after trying to do the opposite change it into a system app. Skyfire disappeared after a reboot. I reinstalled it and it still wouldn't work. having a hard time with space on my phone so i uninstalled it again.

Update forgot i backed up skyfire yesterday.

I restored it then successfully converted it to a system app.

And it's still working. Thinking about going to be daring and delete metro web now. Unfortunately that doesn't solve my android keyboard glitch though.

Converting keyboards to system apps seems to cause problems. I tried it with swype beta and had constant force closes. I had to uninstall and start over. With 2.2 you won't be able to delete everything with titanium backup. You need Root Explorer, but I really wouldn't worry about deleting the Android keyboard. It's not really big enough to make a big difference in your memory. Why not try CM7? That will give you plenty of memory, especially with DT'sA2sd.

However this is my business phone.

Really don't want to have to troubleshoot all the things that could go wrong. Maybe if I buy a newer android I'll get daring and go back and flash this one to cm7. But for now killing the bloat and running most apps from the sd has been fine. I claimed back some space by getting rid of metroweb and moving adobe to my sd card. I have heard of sound and messaging problems when first flashing. Froyo seems fine for most things

Tried to convert SWIFTKEY X to a system app, also had issues. You can move it to internal storage, but, leave it as a user app.

No real need for it satisfied with slyde.
Might of corrupted the android keyboard but slyde is working as default so far without problems.
