Help Remove Text Message Bubbles

Is there any way to remove the new bubbles in 2.2 for text messaging and go back to the 2.1 text sytle?

I know people talk about Handscent but is that the only option?

Also i noticed i cannot send a picture via an e-mail addressed to my phone (Phone#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com It used to work but not anymore anyone else?

handcent is pretty sweet though with many options

Once Handcent is installed, is there a way to change it to be the default messaging app without having to install LauncherPro? Either replacing the standard messaging icon with the Handcent icon or just have Handcent launch as default when that icon is selected?

I tried LauncherPro when I had 2.1, and didn't care for it, and after I uninstalled it, things just didn't seem right. So I would rather not install it again.

I tried going to Settings-Applications-Manage Applications-All-Messaging, then was hoping to be able to "clear defaults", but it is grayed out & says "No defaults set".

I should add that I am running Froyo and I am not rooted.

Any ideas?
