Help Remove unread email count indication

YossiD

Newbie
How can I remove the balloon showing the unread emails count from the email icon? Since I read most of the mail at work in a preview mode, I don't open most messages so this count is meaningless to me and just plain annoying.

I have checked all the settings but can't find anything. I also tried changing the icon, but the unread messages balloon won't go away.

Thanks

Phone is Samsung Galaxy SII - i9100.

The email in question is my work email (MS Exchange) which I generally read using Outlook Web Access (OWA) on my work PC. When highlighting the subject line of a message in the OWA inbox, the content of the message is displayed in a preview window. The message is only shown as read if I double click to open in its own window. As such, most messages show as unread even though I've read them.

Regardless of all that, I understand that the unread messages balloon is the same for any email icon in android, except Gmail, and isn't really related to the email account. I recently upgraded from Gingerbread to Jellybean, and that's when the balloon appeared; in gingerbread I didn't have it. I suppose this is another one of those new Jellybean "features" that I don't like.
