Is there a way to remove the voice commands or shut it off? It is very annoying.

I'm with you that thing is worthless. It's the same old Voice commands VZW has included in their phones for years. The Google voice works much better and doen't take 20 seconds to open.

But to answer your question I don't know

If you are rooted you could rename the voicecommand.apk to "voicecommand.bak" and that should do it.
