Root Removing Apps-Can or Can't

Is it possible to remove apps that came installed on the phone but are ones I probably will never use?
Also, I was going to download Pandora, but it warned me about data use and I stopped. I have the Sprint 130$ All everything plan. Is that still an issue? Should I steer clear of Pandora?
 
Yep, the apps that come preinstalled on the phone aka bloatware can only be removed from your phone with a root access. This is like having an administration access to your computer, just in case you don't know what root is. This is one of the key advantages of having your phone rooted. besides that, you will have to bear with looking at these apps.

And i too also have the same plan, it includes unlimited data in the plan, which is what pandora uses, your phones data. Stream day and night and not be charged an extra cent. I do this with Sirius Xm for Howard Stern and Stitcher for my Adam Carolla!!!
 
Thanks MM! I am an Apple user also. They are always talking about jailbreaking. I see lots of talk here about rooting. Is that similar? I am a techie, but new to Android. Is rooting something I ought or want to do? Forgive my stupidity, but you only learn by trying and asking questions. Thanks again!
 
Yep that is exactly right, jailbreaking for apple is like rooting for android. Gives you permission to do things to your phone that the company doesn't exactly want you to have access to. Now there is no permeant root for the Shift at this moment in time, only a temp. root so every time you boot off and on you have to do it again.

Um its all a personal choice with rooting, you know? some may want to, some may not. Its all with what you have in mind that you want to do with your phone. Change settings, delete bloatware, get access to free wifi hotspot, then root? if these things are necessary then don't root. I rooted my Evo, but I am not going to root my Shift. Most the times if something goes wrong while rooting or rooted, your warranty has now become void by sprint. I don't really need wifi hotspot and i can deal with bloatware to keep my phone under warranty.

As I have bantered back and forth in my mind about rooting, I have discovered that the one thing I would like to do primarily is get rid of those apps I don't want and will never use. My friend, manager at Sprint, put the fear of God in me about rooting, not too surprising, but I am a little wary of it because I wouldn't want it to prevent my selling back my phone to Best Buy for 30% of retail when I get a new phone. Can I temp root and is it do-able for a techie who is an Android newbie?
