Help Removing pre-installed software

Demon85

Lurker
Hi
I've had my Samsung Galaxy S2 for about a week now. Really happy with it so far. My only complaint is all the pre-installed software that comes on it - for example there are two game demos that i am unable to install.

Its network locked to Vodafone Australia. I guess this is why i'm unable to change certain things?

If anyone knows of a way to uninstall them from my phone i'd love to hear it.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

u need to root ur phone to remove some of the pre-installed software :)

Thanks for your response :)

I have found instructions on the internet on how to root. But i dont know what exactly will happen - will it change the look of the phone? Sorry, but can you tell me what will actually happen once its rooted?

Thanks

I did it for the first time on monday. The phone looks exactly the same, you do get 2 extra programs superuser and cwm. Neither of which you need to use.

I then bought titanium pro backup first of all to back everything up and then to freeze (better than uninstalling) a load of the apps that came with it along with Wifi Sharing which was causing power drain.

The phone now lasts MUCH longer on battery. Well worth it. Easy to do as long as you follow the instructions properly.

did u use CF-Root? :) coz im also wondering wat kind of changes will be made to the look of the phone etc. if i root using superoneclick

All rooting does is install an "insecure" kernel, ie one that will give superuser access.

There is no reason why rooting should change the appearance or functionality in any way other than to allow certain apps to gain root privileges.

Installing a 3rd party ROM is a completely different matter; that will change how the phone looks.
