Root Removing/Renaming Factory Text Messaging app

Is there any way to disable the text messaging app. i use handcent and dont want to be able to access my text messages with the text messaging app envelope.

anyway to delete or change name so i cannot access it??
 
You can rename it or delete it. But be warned, you will not be able to send mms messages without it.
 
Also, while you can send messages with Handcent without the stock messaging app, you can't receive them. Or, at least I couldn't when I disabled the stock apk.
 
Just turn off notifications within the stock text messaging app.. It'll be like it doesn't exist. If your launcher allows you to hide apps, you can do that also.
 
I use DxTop. Has 5 screens 2 of which are up and down instead of all left and right. Has a dialer bar or app dock, depending on preference, that shows on all 5 screens. Also lets you hide the status bar if you'd like. You can also categorize and hide apps in the app drawer which is accessed by holding the menu button by default. A long press on an icon or screen area allows you to add/remove, show app info, and work with Widgets. Very nice if you are ok with 5 screens.
