Help Removing shortcuts

Hello. I did search but couldn't find anything. My Vibrant came with market on the home page. When I tried to set up an account it put another shortcut on my home page.
How do I get rid of a shortcut?

Press and hold on the Market icon for a second, then the trash bin should appear at the bottom for you to drag the icon to... If that doesn't work, something weird is happening!

You are THE man! When I held firmly it would open up. I held it lightly and the garbage can showed up.
