Removing standard apps

Hi guys,

Been loving my Desire since rooting a little while ago

Now I'm wondering if I can remove any of the standard apps (ie,messaging, email) using the adb shell??

Then replacing above apps with say handcent and gmail??

These are only examples, as I quite like both, as my phone is off, they're the first ones I thought of.

I have also looked at SURoots own ROM, however I'm confused about the different HBoot options, so not confident on that yet, although I get the feeling that would be something I try at some point

You can remove apps from the ROM before you flash it using WinRAR. Open up the ROM, delete the stuff you don't want and then close the Window by clicking the x in top right hand corner.

Another way is to use Root Explorer which allows you to delete apps already installed on the phone.

Make sure you know what you are deleting as you could give yourself plenty of trouble if you delete the wrong stuff.

oh, awesome, im thinking of moving to Redux from Gingervillain in a few weeks time, so might download it soon and have a look about
I'd probably check on here which apps are safe to remove :)

I have just flashed Redux 1.2 and took out a number of apps. Some are obvious as to what they are, others aren't. You will find plenty of folk on here who will give you all the help you need.

I have downloaded Redux, haven't had a chance to look through it yet though

how its changed, reason for changing the hboot, what advantages there are to doing it

I like to try and understand what I'm doing before jumping straight into it, as I think there's less chance of breaking something that way
