Lurker
so like a moron i renamed the phone app in my system folder because i thought if maybe i did that then my phone would start using dialer one instead well now i cant do anything on my phone because it keeps saying the application dialer has stopped unexpectedly please try again and every time i click force close it just pops back up. i booted my phone in recovery and did a factory reset and still does the same thing. any one know what i can do? my phone is a droid 1

Factory reset is just that - it removes the apps and settings that you have installed, nothing more.

Since you are in recovery, I assume that you are rooted. Are you running a stock ROM that is rooted, or an alternate ROM? If Stock, easiest way (I think) would be to flash a new stock ROM over your current one and root.

OK, I lied - the easiest way would be to connect your phone to your computer and use adb via the Android SDK and rename the file back to what it was.

If you're running a custom ROM, just wipe system and boot and data and cache and reinstall your ROM.

Oh, and this is why you should always make a backup every single time that you screw around in your phone.

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS MAKE A BACK UP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING NEW TO YOUR PHONE, ( you never know what could go wrong )

I wonder if he's making backups every morning now... LOL..

after awhile it's best to move the nandroid backups to your pc.
I couldn't figure out why my SD card was almost out of space, then I noticed those backups really add up after awhile. Now I keeps about 3-4 before moving/deleting..

I just delete them if I know all is going well. Then again, I don't fool around too much on my phone, and I am pretty computer savvy, so I can fix most things that I break in the first pace without needing tiny 5-minute incremental backups lol.

I usually back up once a week, and discard backups older than 2 weeks. And that is only b/c I never know when I may want to try a new ROM....

Yes it is. But, just for the readers, there's still some things in that reference I linked that probably still should say "no" . . . .
