Root Repair return - how to reset to original state

tirc83

Newbie
My Desire has developed a hardware fault and needs to be returned for repair. It is rooted to 2.2 and I'd like to return it to its original Orange state. Any ideas on how I should go about this?

There's a thread on this forum about Unrooting orange. I'm ony phone otherwise id search
It out for you. Either search this forum or Google unroot orange desire xda

Thanks but a search on 'unroot orange' didn't bring anything worthwhile up! If you find a link later, I'd still appreciate it.

Yes thanks guys (train times etc welcome). I did all the searches before asking - been reading and searching for 2+ hours solid. Even tried the link above but cannot get a Nandroid folder to appear on the SD Card despite following instructions to the T. If anyone wants to pm me with something constructive, I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, this thread can be used to record smartarse comments etc. I have to return the phone tomorrow afternoon so comments after that will be irrelevant anyway (for me)

Where are the smartarse comments? You asked how to get back to stock and you've been told that unless you've got an AMOLED screen you can't. Your only other choice is to put a stock WWE ROM on and hope they don't mind/notice

Maybe I'm being too sensitive - anyway it's going back to HTC not Orange so maybe a stock WWE ROM might do? I've no idea where to d/l one so any link would b appreciated.

I gave you the exact Google search term. You didn't do it so I did it for you. It was the first result.. if you don't do the search yourself (which I since have proved it was easy) then you should expect smart arse comnents. We can only help you to help yourself.

And yes you can try stock, its official so they may accept. They will know its orange though.

You'll need your gold card

Sorry you're out - I'd already tried that link (but appreciated you posting it anyway). Downloaded the 2 flies - did as instructed - don't have a Nandroid folder despite making backup. So hit a dead end there.

If you can confirm its an slcd phone, its useless anyways.

Best bet, get to generic stock

Edit. Folder probably called clockworkmod BTW

You could create the file structure of a nandroid backup but if you did a nandroid and it doesn't show up on your SD card then something is wrong...it won't be on the SD card under nandroid, it's normally under clockwork mod (if that's the recovery you use)

Otherwise, download 2.10.405.2 from here and flash it using a gold card:

Thanks - it was clockworkmod. I got the MD5 mismatch error that others reported - so am still at square one.

I used Unrevoked3 so don't have a Goldcard. OK to run from restore in recovery?

To run what from Recovery? If you want to flash a stock WWE ROM you will need a gold card so make one now (assuming the phone is working - you say hardware fault but is it still turning on?)

So..Go ahead and create a gold card.. Unrevoked has nothing to do with it.

I dont want to piggy back on this thread but to clarify things for new users is a blank gold card all thats needed to be able to put a debranded phone back to stock if something went wrong with it!.

i.e I have made a goldcard of a 4 gig samsung card.

But I also have an 8 gig san disk I wish to use in my phone for day to day use etc (keeping 4 gig as a back up).

P.s is a gold card needed for normal use as when I put the 8 gig card in formatted Fat32 I cant install apps to the phone anymore?

(if a mod could split this thread |I would be grateful)

Not a BLANK goldcard..Yes, you need a goldcard, but you have to put the Stock flash (RUU) on it, or run an RUU exe with the goldcard in phone..

A goldcard is needed only for unrooting/debranding purpose. You can use a Goldcard without the flash for normal purpose, but there is a chance of corruption..

Read this for more about goldcards pls..What you need are the FAQs at the end of the 1st post.
